Using Garmin Forerunner 235

Hey Everyone! I just got a Garmin Forerunner 235, mainly just to track my running workouts because it has the HRM in the wrist instead of a chest strap. However, it can also be used as an activity tracker. Unfortunately, I cannot wear it when I am at work for security reasons and can't wear it during some of my activities such as Tae Kwon Do and Soccer. So my question is, is it worth it to link it up to MFP or will the adjustments be off and just throw my calories completely out of whack??? Has anyone tried this with irregular input from the tracker? I don't want to link them if it will mess things up since it's not going to be tracking whole days all the time.

Hi! I have had my Forerunner 235 since February and love it! Like you, I bought it to primarily track my runs and give me data/motivation. I like the activity tracker aspect too so I can see how many steps I get in a day, but I actually delete the Garmin Connect calorie adjustment and just leave the calories burnt from the runs. I figure my normal activity is factored into my TDEE that my daily calorie goal. Also, Garmin tends to overestimate my calories burned from regular activity, but it's pretty accurate for my runs. Good luck!

If you only wear it for running and then take it off during the day it won't have a negative impact on tracking your runs. It doesn't log calories for your steps unless you turn that on under "Steps" in the app.

Either way it won't matter if you're tracking steps and don't wear it. It will just not track steps. Your run will be unaffected.

ETA: Yes, I've tried this with my Garmin device. Some days I forget to put it back on after I shower after a run. It's not a big deal.
