My husband and I were told by a lifelong weight watchers friend (lost over 100 lbs. years ago and still there :), that she doesn't use any special - lite, fat free, "diet" foods. She just eats her proper rations of the real deal and tracks meticulously. What are your thoughts on this?

For the most part, I don't either. I have tried a few, but I haven't found lite or reduced whatever alternatives that are any good as the original.

I just moderate my calorie intake and exercise.

I eat both. An example is Kraft Olive Oil Mayo. It has 35 calories and I like the taste. My sister hates it but regular mayo has about 110 calories a tablespoon. But why have the extra calories if the product is actually healthier for you. If you use common sense and try to buy what is healthiest for your body. If you not sure do a little research. I buy lite ice cream because I need to limit my sugar for health reasons I still want to be able to eat it. Some times the trade off is not great because I'm sure they put in some artificial sweetener but again it is what is better for my body. For the most part though I eat lean and healthy regular food. I don't buy fast food, I don't even consider that food.

I live off of fat-free Pringles. I just can't justify spending more calories than what they contain on chips. I am also a slave to Diet Coke.

I decide on "diet" vs regular based on what the product is. If I'm looking at sauces (Alfredo, cole slaw, etc) that I tend to use very little of (just enough to flavor, I'm not really big on sauces) then I but the lighter version instead of wasting calories on something I barely want any of. Other things (ice cream, etc) that I indulge on tend to be regular versions.

I use both "diet" foods and non diet foods. My favorite diet foods are really just convenience foods that are smaller portions. I just sometimes need a grab and go option that I know is low in calories. Most are for my sweet tooth, Like skinny cow ice cream, fiber one bars, weight watchers chocolate..etc.

And everything I do eat, is something I want to eat for my lifetime. Why not, tastes good and is low in calories. :)

I just read every post here - and nobody here seems to realise a lot of "Diet" foods are not for lpsing weight. They are for SPECIAL DIETS. Myself, I have a weak infected gallbladder and I cannot eat fat foods - or I will have to go under the knife. i scout out "fat free" foods because they're some of the few things I can et anymore. My sister is a diabetic and ahe can't handle a lot of sugar - sugar free foods are great for her.

Also, I wanted to warn everyone - "ZERO" PRODUCTS CONTAIN A CHEMICAL THAT CAUSE PANIC ATTACKS, ANCIETY AND INCREASED STRESS. The chemical is "aspartame" and it's in most diet sodas, a lot of gums including Juicy fruit & other Wrigleys products, Trident products, even Hubba Bubba. If you see Aspartame in anything you consume I highly suggest not purchasing it. My sister is on psych meds as well as someone i used to know and even then the three of us were having severe sobbing panic attacks while drinking Coke Zero and that zero Powerade stuff.

That's what I do too. Eat real food, not too much.

Like atkins bars (peanut butter) and shakes. Nice snack and extra protein.
