staying in control

I am now 19 weeks into my journey and 14/16 lbs down. I did a walking marathon 4 weeks ago. Since then I have had a break from walking such long distances, been hungry and getting a little sloppy with logging. I have been in maintenance give or take 2lbs. Now I want to go back to losing because my hunger has reduced and my body is ready to step up the exercise.

But I have a bit of a mental block about losing the next 14 lbs because if takes me to my initial target. Why I am having doubts that I can do this? Any tips on how to get my mojo back?

I'm not sure how to help you. A big part of weight loss is mental. If you don't have the drive and motivation to do it, you probably won't. I know you have it in you bc you've done a good job so far before you took the break. Maybe you're afraid of failing. Don't be! You've already failed if you never try! One thing that helps me get motivated is looking at the success stories section. Looking at the before and after pics helps me know it is possible! But that's me, I have alot more weight to lose than you. I just keep reminding myself of what it is I'm trying to accomplish. Good luck and I wish you the best!

Does it have anything to do with being used to losing weight and not being confident about maintenance?

I know it seems weird that you'd feel comfortable in a weight loss plan and scared about ending it, but that's how human beings are. We get comfortable where we are and reluctant to move on to a new phase. You know how to lose weight. Do you know how to maintain? What if you can't? What if you CAN? Then you'll never be on a weight loss plan again and you'll have to say goodbye to this way of life. We don't like saying goodbye to the way things are, even if the new way is better. Think of the bride the night before the wedding, or the parent dreading their baby becoming a big kid, even though it'll mean goodbye to dirty nappies and sleepless nights. We just don't like saying goodbye.

This could be one reason, or it might be way off. Whatever the reason is, I hope you get your mojo back soon! I really like your attitude, you seem to know how you listen to your body and give yourself time. I think you've got this.

You're just human as far as a mental block. what you have to realize is that you can overcome anything you want as long as you apply yourself.

What you have to find your own why. That why has to be totally selfish it can't be for your significant other or for the kids. It has to be totally selfish. Once you find that why this becomes easy. As crazy as it sounds the physical work is actually easy it's just following the numbers that you entered as far as your mfp parameters.

Six months ago I was about to 290. I would have been happy at 270. I decided for 3 months to shoot a 250 based on losing about 2 pounds a week thought it might be realistic. Blew through that after three months decided to reset the goal to 230 by the end of June. I actually hit 230 at the end of May. Six months ago I never in my wildest imagination could I picture being where I currently am.

What you have to realize is you're fighting a mental game against yourself. We are our worst enemies. Just realize that you can do it and more importantly you're worth it.

Re-examine your approach, refine it if necessary. See where the difficulties are. As far as weight management goes, there's no difficulty that one cannot address. You are not dealing with anything unknown or unproven! Good luck.
