Hey all! I'm logging both WW smart points and MFP to see if I can ditch the monthly expense. Anyone have thoughts on comparing? On WW fruits and most veggies are free so I'm finding myself go over with calories

I'm here, not at WW, because I do not like Smart Points at all. I lost a significant amount of weight on the previous WW plan, but when they switched to the current plan, I switched to MFP. I've lost a lot of weight since I switched over to this site. I double tracked at WW and MFP for a few weeks before I made my decision.
The bottom line with weight loss is that you must expend more calories than you consume. WW is supposed to guide you to healthier food choices, but you can get nutritional feedback on MFP as well.
Bottom line, continue to track for a few weeks, look at what you're eating and what results you're getting, and then do whatever makes you comfortable. If you quit WW but don't lose weight while using MFP, you can rejoin.

There are lots and lots of WW refugees as well as people doing both here.2 -
I have used WW and lost 50-125# on a couple of occasions. Their Filling Foods list helped give me guidance and got me started on better habits. There are people who lose and continue to maintain using the Points system.
I wouldn't dissuade someone from doing what works for them, but overall, I think WW is past its prime. It's outdated and more restrictive. You end up with a muddled understanding of nutrition and calories because it's all masked by the Points system. I much prefer MFP, and I think it's much better for my goal of long-term balance. Free is also good.2 -
I was on WW a couple of years ago. Had some success on it. When my husband went down to working part time from full time, it wasn't a cost I could justify. I started MFP January last year. I've lost 76 lbs so far. I prefer tracking all my calories as opposed to having some free foods, but it does get a bit to get used to.1

I've lost weight on WW to me these are mostly a wash.
What I gain (hah!) from WW is accountability to people that aren't me....plus I'm comptetiive so I like to ensure I have the highest weight loss each week (which isn't possible).
Though I HIGHLY disagree with free fruits, as fruits have calories/sugar in them. My leader said 'welll...just eat until you feel satisfied' I laughed "If i could do that, I wouldn't be here right now..."

Thanks all!! I'm already feeling good about MFP except I like the weeklies with ww but I think my calorie intake on the point system wasn't too high so the weeklies always got used. It's a good adjustment for me though!0

WW was my first experience with weight loss and I learned a lot of good things. I successfully lost weight on WW but I've successfully lost weight on MFP too with a feeling of a lot more control. What I know now about myself is that I will have to calorie count the rest of my life in order to keep the weight off...and MPF being free and straight forward (just calories) means I know I can do that.0

Yep left WW didn't like SmartPoints I know a couple of people whose blood sugar got way too low in SmartPoints one was hospitalized and Doctor specifically blamed WW for being too restrictive0

I also had success on earlier versions of WW, but then it stopped working for me...probably because of the free fruit. I didn't want to keep spending the $$ for a program that no longer worked. I have found MFP to be even better for me. I have to count all the calories (even fruit) and I now have a better understanding about the sugars, fats, carbs, etc. that I'm eating. I love MFP! (and the free part is really good!)

I tried Weight Watchers briefly, but I hated the group meetings. I think I attended a total of two before I decided it wasn't for me. MFP is free. I like free. With MFP I don't have to deal with the social aspect. I check into the boards daily, but it's not as invasive and totally on my own terms.0
