Can anyone recommend Boston restaurants?

Hi all. We are headed to Boston for an extended weekend starting on Friday. Can anyone recommend any restaurants in the area? Also, while not related to fitness and weight loss, I would also love ideas on attractions that are worthwhile, and off the beaten path. Thanks!

Are you staying in the city? What kind of food are you looking for? Price range?

I'm not from Boston, but have visited. I'll mention a site that I thought was pretty cool - Longfellow House in Cambridge was pretty cool. I'm not sure what types of sites you like to visit, but if you are interested in history, that is a neat place to see. There are lots of other places to visit, of course, for history in Boston.

So many good places, it depends on what you are looking for, and price range!

It's been a while since I've been there, but Lucca is an excellent Italian place.

Just about anything in the Italian neighborhood on the north end. The pastry shoppes there are outstanding.

Yes, we are staying at Long Wharf. Price wise, I would say mid-range, although pricey is not out of the question once.

Thanks. I know we want to do something on the North end at least once.

Thanks for the replies all. I have visited once, a couple of years ago. We've done most of the freedom trail already, and the USS Constitution. We tried several places at Quincy Market as well. We have done the Duck Boat tours :), and a ghost tour, which we loved. We are staying in the city.

We have planned a whale watching trip, because we didn't do it last time, and I really want to do it!

I have Yelp, but I got overwhelmed last night at the sheer number of choices. Just thought I would ask what others have liked.

This is by no means fine dining, in fact it's kind of dumpy, but if you like pizza, pizzeria Regina in the north end. The white pizza with fresh basil is amazing!

Modern pastry has the best pastries I think, but mikes is always busier, more well known. I don't think it's as good, practically across the street from each other. Grab a cappuccino while you're down that way.

Another thing I love in the north end is giacomos, pumpkin tortellini with a mascarpone cream sauce, yum! Again, there a lot nicer places but that dish is so yummy. they are known for their seafood, pasta, red sauce dishes. You really can't go wrong with many of the places in the north end. The other place I liked that was nicer closed down.

Newbury street to walk around. There's a little off the beaten path Mexican place in an alley called Casa Romero. Good Mexican food. There are lots of shops and restaurants to cruise around down there. JP Licks for ice cream.

    http://www.casaromero.com

Food network had a place on called Yankee trader lobster company. They spotlighted the cod cakes and lobster Mac and cheese. I like to check out a food network place when I'm in a city. I have not been but it's on my list too.

    http://www.yankeelobstercompany.com

For upscale steak places. Mortons, Capital Grill, Abe and Louie's, Ruth's Chris. My moms favorite is Mortons, goes every year for her birthday, I liked Ruth's Chris the best. Depending where you love you may have some of these near you.

There's an open market in the summer called Sowa. They have food trucks, farmers market, and and arts and crafts shopping area. Kind of fun. Only in Sunday's 10-4

Tico has a fun brunch on Saturday with live music. We had a cousins reunion there last summer and everyone loved it.

You could check out the new waterfront area. They have redone it in the past 5 years or so. Shops, restaurants, etc.

You have done the few biggies in Boston. You could check out the swan boats, the aquarium, the garden museum. Which I think you can walk to from Ticos.

I might have had more before. I forget. I'm so mad right now that it disappeared.

Shhhhhh. Don't tell people about Casa Romero. I'm with you on Ruth's Chris having the best steaks and JP Licks has the best ice cream. Though my husband is an Emack and Bolio guy (and there's one very close to Long Wharf). And I second the recommendation for the North End. I've not had a duff meal there yet.

Thank you so much. We do want to do the swan boats; we didn't do it last time we were there. I appreciate the links, and the information on the open market.

Haha... So, are you a Reginas or Santarpios girl? Mikes or Modern? These things are important... Lol

    What's a duff meal?

I know it's a chain (but a local chain) but I love Legal Seafood and there are several locations. We went to Boston on our honeymoon and that is the meal I remember...

Please see my first post too, the one that was missing everything. That's important stuff about the north end pizza and pastry! Lol

    And you're very welcome.

I was going to say that because I liked their food too, but my friend who lives in Boston and her friends didn't think as highly... I figured it was because I'm from the Midwest so my seafood standards are just lower than those who live closer to the coast and eat seafood more often.

Ah, sorry about that. My English idioms keep slipping out. A duff meal is a bad meal.

Definitely a Reginas girl. Love calling in there before or after Bruins games. And I know Mikes is the popular one, but I think Modern is better.

And if the OP likes baseball, the Red Sox are at home thst weekend.

Legal used to be THE place to go. I would say it's hit or miss now. My aunt loves the one near her. I like their seafood casserole. And they have, or did have, good chowder. They have a restaurant or two down at the new waterfront. Also, the Atlantic fish company. Have not been but it's supposed to be good.

    @BruinsGal_91 I like you already!

Yay! And 14 weeks to the Bruins first pre-season game. Yes, I'm so desperate for hockey, I'm looking forward to meaningless games. (Insert Maple Leafs joke here).

I live on the other side of the river and hopefully you can pop over to Harvard Square. If you really want to mix in a nice calorie burn, you can walk from Boston, which would give you an excuse to cross over the Mass Ave bridge which offers some great views of the city.

I'm a big fan of Flour bakery if you're looking for a simple enough breakfast or sandwich later in the day.

Legal is fine, sort of a standard but if you're on the new waterfront area, I prefer Row 34.

Elephant Walk is a favorite of mine as well, that's sort of near Fenway. It's a French-Cambodian fusion, reasonably priced.

Toscanini's in Cambridge has the best ice cream. The others, like JP Licks, are still very very good though. Boston takes ice cream very seriously.

It's fundamentally a walking city so bring comfy shoes. Hopefully you're not renting a car.

Another market you may want to check out is the Boston Public Market. It's a full-time dedicated farmer's market, not just for Sundays like Sowa.

Thank you. I will say that their corn was not as good... but that is probably also related to me being from the midwest. And I don't know why I should expect the corn at a seafood place to be particularly remarkable anyway.

Thanks! Definitely not renting a car. Last time, we mostly walked (although our two girls love the subway, too). We did not visit Harvard Square on our previous trip, so that is a possibility.

Such great ideas; I can't wait to start checking some of these out.

My dad was born and raised in East Boston. I have to say that every time I go up to visit, I have to make a stop at Revere Beach for Kelley's Roast Beef and a Richie's Italian Ice. :) Other than that, I think everyone has named all the good places. If my grandma was still alive, I'd tell you to go there for some real yummy Italian! ;)
