How accurate is the weight loss estimator that pops up after you've completed your daily diary?
Would be neat to know.
Thanks everyone! :)

For most people, fairly inaccurate. For one, it's "if every day were like today", so you'd have to eat that exact way/those amounts for the next five weeks. Second, weight fluctuates daily, so even if you lose that amount of fat you could be off due to water retention.

I think it's just there to give you a positive to keep pushing on. I like it keeps me motivated that thinking I could possibly be that weight in five weeks.

I totally know what you mean and couldn't agree more!

I wish it did not exist or we could turn it off! Unmotivating to me although the numbers always look good this never represents (and never has) anything remotely close to my weight loss goals.

I'm glad that I am getting different opinions about this. I am sorry that it is such a negative for you.

You don't have to "complete" your diary. It will save the data either way.

I forget to complete about 90% of the time, and nothing changes.

This question came up on my friends-feed recently, which inspired me to go back and check what the program was predicting for me five weeks ago. It was over-estimating my real progress by about 8-10 lbs. Now that I've been here a while, I find it more useful to see what I've really done month-by-month, which has been pretty steady and therefore gives me a prediction I can count on. As for why the calculator over-estimates, all I can think is that (if it's accurate at all) I'm under-counting my food calories or over-counting my exercise calories. Doesn't really matter, does it? I'm losing, and that's what's important, so I must have stumbled on a counting method that gives me an adequate calorie deficit.

Mine is completely bogus. I've lost over 110 pounds between June of 2014 and June of 2015. I'm maintaining my 2,000-2,200 calorie a day diet. I ride my bike 3-5 times a week. I jog 1-2 times a week and I'm avoiding sugary drinks and soft drinks and It keeps saying I'll continue losing weight. However I haven't dropped a pound in about 16 weeks.

I will agree with the above posters that it's pretty much a motivator to keep you going. And it gives you a good idea of what's going and how well you're doing with your food. If your suggest weight goes up then you know you need to change your diet.

It's only as accurate as you are and even then not very accurate because everyone's body is different and how they lose the weight is different. It doesn't know if you're trying to gain muscle as you lose weight so, if you do, 5 weeks from your starting point, you might not be anywhere near where it estimated. Also, the estimator self adjusts as you lose weight so your 5 week goal will constantly change.
