Manflu and MFP....

Yesterday I was ill. Still am today (though somewhat better). Let's call it manflu. Not proper flu, for sure, but very sore head, aching muscles, shivers, hot sweats, extreme exhaustion, etc. But I seek no sympathy - *kitten* happens!

Apart from knocking my exercise plans into the weeds (though I did still make 10k steps yesterday) is there anything I should be aware of in terms of what I should and shouldn't be eating and drinking? I want to minimise the impact, and ensure I can be back up to my previous regime as quickly as possible. Even though I know, deep-down, that it's right, I feel bad about taking it easy. I want to go out and walk the dog, but I can barely climb the stairs....

Anyway, I am sure I'm not alone in this kind of thing, so anyone with stories to tell or advice to impact, please go ahead - I have, if nothing else, plenty of computer time today (it's about all I can do!)

Plenty of fluids and maybe eat at maintenance until you feel better.

^This. Stay hydrated and eat at maintenance.
    Sleep.
The general guideline is if you have a fever, do not work out.
Also, some people retain water weight while the body is fighting an infection. (Stay away from the scale.)

The answer depends on what ails you, experts tell WebMD. For example, exercising with a cold may be OK, but if you've got a fever, hitting the gym is a definite no-no.
    . . . .
A neck check is a way to determine your level of activity during a respiratory illness," adds Neil Schachter, MD, medical director of respiratory care at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. "If your symptoms are above the neck, including a sore throat, nasal congestion, sneezing, and tearing eyes, then it's OK to exercise," he says. "If your symptoms are below the neck, such as coughing, body aches, fever, and fatigue, then it's time to hang up the running shoes until these symptoms subside."

    My recommendation is:
Rest, I wouldn't be walking 10 k or working out
    Drink plenty of fluids
Eat plain and easily digestible foods like:
    Porridge/oatmeal
    Crackers
    Soup
    Bananas
    Etc.
Take some hot soaking baths (I highly recommend the Epsom salt with menthol or camomile like these)

I also like to drink herbal teas with echinacea

I agree with what everyone else said. Rest up!

If it is the man flu that I'm aware of, be sure to call your mother and/or your girlfriend or wife and whine uncontrollably about how you're dying and need to make funeral arrangements. You also must lay on the couch and not move, not even for that pesky tv remote. They must retrieve those for you because you're too weak from this man flu! Lol! :D

Sorry! I saw man flu and couldn't resist to poke fun!

    Hope you feel better soon!
