I keep gaining weight! :(

Hello, I am 5'7, 238 lbs. After being diagnosed with hypothyroidism, (TSH is currently 8.65) I have steadily gained weight over the last 6 years. I am having an issue with something strange too. After eating a meal, I have really bad head pains in the temple area and between my eyes. I feel extremely unsteady on my feet as well. Waves of dizziness come and go. It might be a food allergy, what do you think?

Exercises is difficult because of this. I'm not sure what's going on, but I'm scared. Diabetes is not what I want in my future. But what's concerning me is the head pains after eating. Sometimes I can't see straight.

Anyone else have this happen?

You need to see a doctor. You really need to get checked out. This is not normal. It could be a food allergy, something to do with hypothyroidism or many different things. But I would see a doctor.

My doctor gives me pills for dizziness. But I question what is causing it. My blood tests recently came back normal. I'm so frustrated!

Do you notice this when eating all foods or just with carbs? Or more so if you skip a meal or wait too long to eat?Could be you are hypoglycemic. Easily checked by doctor. Definitely don't skip meals and have healthy snacks between meals. Try to avoid processed foods and choose complex carbohydrates with protein for each meal/snack to avoid the rapid spike and drop in blood sugar. But do get it checked to rule out food intolerance or other health issues.

Your TSH is elevated, you won't lose weight until you're in the sub 3.0 range and all other thyroid function tests are normal. I was undermedicated for years and just steadily gained weight. Once I got on the right dose of replacement hormone therapy, brand name Levoxyl, no generics due to inconsistencies in amount of actual medicine, I lost the 20 lbs. I gained. Right now I'm recovering from pregnancy weight gain, miscarriage and whacked hormones but I'm sure once things have calmed down I will lose again when my thyroid meds are adjusted. Once on replacements, you must get checked every 6 months. even with meds, weight loss is more in the 1 lb a week range for us with hypothyroidism. Strength training is your best friend. Also, the dizziness from eating, you might want to check for diabetes too? Sounds like a blood sugar thing to me. Have you had this tested? You said blood tests, so just wondering if your A1C is in the results. If it's over 5.0 you have pre-diabetes and have to be careful with how much carbs you eat at one meal, you have to spread them out really well.

Sounds like either inner ear/Menier's or like an anxiety issue.
I used to suffer from dizziness and vertigo when I had anxiety disorder in the past.
If you're taking pills then your doctor is already aware so that's good.

    About the weight
just start logging your food here. After you carefully measure it with a digital scale.
You don't have to exercise at all to lose weight.

About the head pain - have you checked your eyes soon?

Thank you for your post. I'll be checked for hypoglycemia for sure. And I'll schedule with my doctor right away.

Thank you! I can ask for the A1C levels. I certainly hope it's not pre-diabetes. I'm glad you're levels are normal now. It's good to hear you lost weight after you got it under control. I started Levo today.
