Hair Loss

I feel like I'm losing more hair than usual. I'm now at 1500 cal/day, losing no more than 2 lbs/week. Protein levels are close to target (tbh I never try too hard to meet them as a vegetarian, so I could get a bit more...)

Do you think this is any cause for concern? No problems with how I feel.

I also kind of feel like I'm breaking out more than usual but no idea if that's connected in any way.

TIA

Try upping your healthy fats (avocado, olive oil, etc.)

how much are you trying to lose in total?
2lbs a week is a pretty steep amount if you are looking to lose 20lbs...not so much if it's 100lbs.

As a vegetarian it can be tough to get in your protein but it is important...and the targets on MFP are minimums...

I would be concerned if I was losing hair and the only change was weight loss...

If you're eating 1500 a day, but burning say 700 calories through exercise, then your net is only 800 calories. And undereating is definitely related to people losing their hair.

Any underlying medical conditions? PCOS, thyroid issues, anemia?
Take a hair/scalp photo now, and again in a few months to help assess loss. It can help you and a doctor (if needed) determine how much you're losing and what might be causing it.

I was in a challenge with a bunch of women and a lot of them experienced hair loss and it stopped when they took a multivitamin. I literally take a generic women's multi vitamin and it has made a big difference.

Started with 70 lbs to lose, now have 40 lbs to lose. I've set MFP to lightly active, lose 1 lb/week, eat the recommended amount of calories and end up losing two.

I understand MFPs macro calculations but most nutritional guidelines suggest 0.36 G protein/lb body weight which for me now = 60 g. I looked back on my diary and have not hit that on maybe 3 days out of the last six weeks.

I don't think it's to the point that it would be noticeable in a photo but that's a good idea to do now just in case. Also no underlying medical conditions.

I've just begun adding exercise into my regime. I'm doing the couch to 5k so burning less than 200 cals a few times a week and I will eat back approx. half of those.

Will definitely look into the fats and multivitamins. :)

    Thanks everyone.
