When Pork Shoulder (Boston Butt) Qualifies as "Lean"

The USDA's Nutrition Database lists several entries for pork shoulder (a.k.a. Boston butt, picnic roast), among them "separable lean and fat, cooked" and "separable lean only, cooked." I always remove the fat cap prior to cooking this cut of meat; however, exactly how much fat removal would qualify the roast as "separable lean only"?

It's a heavily fatty food (and, naturally, one of my toothpick Husband's favorites); the leaner I can qualify it, the better.

Aforementioned USDA Nutrition Database entries--

Pork, fresh, enhanced, shoulder, (Boston butt), blade (steaks), separable lean and fat, cooked, braised: 72 cal. (45 from fat) and 5g fat/1 oz.; http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/pork-products/10303/2

Pork, fresh, enhanced, shoulder, (Boston butt), blade (steaks), separable lean only, cooked, braised: 64 cal. (31 from fat) and 3g fat/1 oz.; http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/pork-products/10294/2

Why lean it down so much? When you remove the fat prior to cooking it........you are removing some of the moisture from the meat itself and flavor.

Also, there is nothing unhealthy about eating fat. Fat does not make a person fat.

In general, yes, "lean" or not, eesh: definitely a food I need to limit (2 oz. servings, perhaps) when watching my fat intake.

PaleoPath4Lyf, I'm certainly not anti-fat (it keeps me full and energized!); at the same time, I don't know that I want to be regularly eating so much of my daily fat quota in one tiny bowl (tonight's 4.10 oz. at dinner = 20 of 53g). ;)

^ Of course, my above assessment assumes the macros suggested for me (on other sites) are accurate for my Endomorph body.

I am also an endomorph body type and everything I have read suggests high fat, lower carb, moderate protein for the way of eating - which is how I eat and have great success.

How can u tell me your endomorph? Some person on here said they were ectomorph even when they were very overweight just curious how do you know?

The pic of the female endomorph is classic of what I looked like before gaining weight and after ironically........I am somewhere in the middle at the moment.

For a man.........Endomorph's are deined as:

The endomorph body type is solid and generally soft. Endomorphs gain fat very easily. Endo’s are usually of a shorter build with thick arms and legs. Muscles are strong, especially the upper legs. Endomorphs find they are naturally strong in leg exercises like the squat.

    Typical traits of an Endomorph:

    Soft and round body
Gains muscle and fat very easily
    Is generally short
    "Stocky" build
    Round physique
Finds it hard to lose fat
    Slow metabolism
    Muscles not so well defined

For a woman that is an endomorph, defined as so:

Endomorphs are the body type that perhaps are most likely to feel they drew the short straw. Endomorphs naturally tend to have fuller figure, curvy or obese and struggle to keep their body fat percentage in check. The most difficult challenge for endomorphs is perhaps to find out that they are in fact an endomorph. Why? Once you know you are endomorph, you know that you were born this way. And come to the realization that you are likely to gain weight very easily.
You have the type of metabolism that is not forgiving. However, this doesn’t mean you are destined to be overweight or even obese. Endomorphs have to make a conscious, concerted effort to do the things your body should be doing for you automatically. If your body isn’t instinctively telling you to move more, you have to make sure that exercise is part of your daily routine.
