Eating Right

So I'm trying and trying to lose some weight and get into a new routine lifestyle of eating healthy. I think we can all agree that it is a little difficult to resist our temptations. I know that the right diet and exercise will easily lead you to the end of the journey you want but it's a process. Sometimes we have good days and sometimes we have bad. I'm trying to cut back on carbs and it is very hard for me. I'm just like you guys trying to get into a healthier lifestyle and so far I think I'm doing pretty well.

If it's hard to cut back on carbohydrates, then why do it?4

I eat too many and just want to cut back and focus more on fruits, vegetables, and meat and not so much carbs with that.0

Fruits are mostly carbs.8

Eating right isn't hard, but following arbitrary eating rules is hard. If you want to lose weight, you need to get in the right amount of calories, and do that for a long time, and if you are going to do that for a long time, you'll want to make it as easy for yourself as possible. There isn't one right way to eat, there are millions. Just find something that works for you!4

I generally focus on calories and protein first, but how many carbs are you eating, that it's being defined as too much. And the right diet is the one you can sustain. The right exercise program is the one you like. And honestly, if you are getting carbs from veggies, whole grains, legumes, oats and other whole food sources, I wouldn't stress it too much, unless of course it prevents you from staying in a deficit or prevents you from addressing your goals.3

OP your enthusiasm is great and your goals of eating healthier are very admirable. Many people who come here feel that eating healthier automatically means cutting something out (carbs, sugar, etc). The responses you are getting so far are meant to tell you that healthy eating does not have to mean restriction.
My approach to this was to focus on adding things to my lifestyle, rather than restricting. The only thing I restricted were calories. But I added more protein, more vegetables, more whole grains, more exercise and more sleep. By doing this I did start eating more nutrient dense foods, found it fairly easy to lose the weight I set out to lose (30 lbs) and am now maintaining that loss.
Good luck!7 -
I think your desire to eat healthy is great! My suggestion is to do your best to keep away from sugary carbs if you are trying to eat healthy, but no need to avoid carbs in general. My suggestion is to eat healthy foods, eat below maintenance (throw in exercise if you want) and you will do great. My diet is nearly 50 percent carbs and weight loss is happening.
Keep up the good work!2 -
Thank you guys so much for your feedback I really appreciate it!!!1
