Lifting helping fitness?

I've been lifting for the last 3 months, with no cardio. Today I went hill climbing - I would normally have *really* struggled with this but it was a total breeze and I was hardly out of breath....could lifting have helped my cardio fitness? Am confused.

    yes of course. you are stronger and in better shape than you were 3 months ago.

    Absolutely. I started a lifting program and realized recently that I'm a much faster runner. Congrats!
