Reviving old threads

Why do people get so butthurt over old threads getting revived? isn't that the point of the search function? so you don't have 700 threads about corn for example?

I think it depends on the contribution to the thread at that point.3

There are people here that get irritated by everything especially if they don't know you or you're new. I say do what you want and *kitten* them! I'm fairly new so I welcome old threads being revived and if I don't like something well then I simply ignore it instead of being an *kitten*.4

The issue is that people respond and give advice to the OP when they haven't been around in a long time so others continue to give advice to people no longer here. It's just odd that anyone would do that.6

This. It's so odd.2 -
It's not that we are annoyed or anything, it is just nonsensical when people reply to old threads giving advice to the OP.2
-
What if they aren't advice threads though? they might be opinion threads. And if they are advice threads, they may help other readers, unless they are customised to the OPs exact circumstances. Like reviving a thread about their own relationship issues or something, vs binge eating.1

A lot of them are specific questions by someone who is long gone from the site.1

I have no issue with people reviving old threads to start the conversation again. Or to add their own question. Or someone bringing back their own thread.
I'm even happy to see people are using the search function.
I do mention when someone revives and old thread to give OP advice, particularly when the OP clearly isn't on the forums anymore. It's pointless to revive an old thread to give advice to someone who is no longer here. People find it frustrating to read through a whole thread and give advice only to realize the person is likely never going to see it.
I did this in a thread earlier today when someone revived a thread to give OP advice.
I also find it strange when someone goes and revives a bunch of dead threads on the same topic with the same post.2 -

I don't know why you dislike me so much but I was answering the question. It has nothing to do with rules but directly commenting to someone who is no longer here is odd.0 -

Thanks for asking but I'm fine. Just to let you know I'm not outraged by this thread or anything on mfp actually0 -

Resurrecting old threads is considered bad form on many forums. It certainly isn't limited to this forum or poster.
Some sites lock threads after a certain amount of inactivity.
A lot of what is considered acceptable or not around is pretty typical for any forum.7 -
Butt hurt is like my favorite saying.4

Main issue is that it's kinda pointless to revive one because 99% of the people will only read the first post anyway. So you're better off making a new thread (unless it's still relatively recent, but if it's more than a year old... probably not worth it).0

I didn't realize this was in chit-chat (or did it get moved), otherwise I wouldn't have even read this.
Chit chat has it's own set of rules around here. You kinda of learn that as you hang out here. Just like every other forum in existence. No need to write it all down.
Now, where's the door?2 -

Not butthurt here0 -
The search function is more useful for looking to see if your own question is already answered.
For instance, if you have a question about protein so you do a search and find a thread from last year that answers your question, that is helpful to you.
On the other hand, if you do a search for corn because you have a question about corn and you find a thread which doesn't really answer your question but you revive it to say that you like corn but don't eat it often, that isn't as helpful and likely will confuse those who don't realize that the thread is old and reply to the OP not realizing that they're long gone.2 -
I like getting butthurt standing up in front of a mirror.
Oh, sorry. Thought this was the "normal fetish" thread.2 -

I feel like this place is like baseball. So many unwritten rules...
Everyone gets offended by everything. Welcome to 2016. Do what you want.

While "offended/offense" can certainly be used in this case, I think there are better adjectives that can be used to describe a situation such as this; annoyed, irritated, or exasperated even. I think you just wanted a reason to use that meme. You get a 4/10.3 -

Republican meme's are funny.0 -
I'm exasperated by your attempts at humor. Just like the guy that doesn't like selfies, if you don't like it, don't open it. Hopefully this comment doesn't break one of those unwritten rules. Wouldn't want to upset the sheep.0
