Hello everyone,
I just started using mfp almost two weeks back and have lost about 5-6lbs in these two weeks. Is this pace ok? I am terrified maybe I have lost a lot of muscle. My caloric limit is 1200 and according to that I should lose 2lbs per week only. So it just water weight that usually occur when one starts or muscle. I have not a lot to lose.

I have used mfp before and have kept that weight off. Just want to restart to lose some more. This time I am also experiencing cramps and pains in my bones.

My dad is going to school to be a personal trainer, he told me that you shouldn't loose more than 2lbs a week. But idk

The first few weeks it is okay add it is probably mostly water weight. If you keep losing so much you'll want to up your calories a bit.

Your body carries water for various purposes. One of those is to digest and store carbohydrate (sugar and starch). If you reduce the amount of carbohydrate you eat, you will need less water to process it, so the extra water will be peed out.

This happens almost every time you reduce the overall amount you eat, so in the first week of a new weight loss plan you are very likely to lose several pounds in water. I lost 6 this time, if which at least 5 was just water. The only way you will not see this early loss is if you have taken on water for another reason - for example, if you have started a heavy new exercise regime, in which case your body will take on more water to repair and build up muscle.

So no, it's not a problem, it's normal, and you haven't lost 5-6lb of muscle or fat. It's mostly extra water. Don't worry about it - take it as an opportunity to learn about water retention. Water comes and goes for all sorts of reasons and will make the scale number go up and down. Don't let it worry you.
