First PT session should be like a first date. You should get to know who the trainer is, their experience, and mostly what their plan is. A good trainer should be actually training you on what a healthy lifestyle is, how to do exercises, and how to build your routines and progress. They should not be there to just run you through things, count reps, and say motivating things.
With my clients I started them a few times a week for the first 2-4 weeks, then did once a week for a few months to make sure they understood what was being taught. After that I would see them as needed to update their routines, give them new exercises, or do any other tweaks they wanted.
So make sure the goal is to make you independent, not dependent.
