i usually eat pretty healthy. lots of protein, veg, and fruits. workout 5-6 days a week insanity and insanity max 30. anyways i cut out diet coke from my life. went cold turkey and its been about 170 days now. maybe 1 time a month or 2 i will have a zero calorie sprite. i don't remember the last time that i got a headache but every time i have a soda, if its a couple sips or a small bottle i get a horrible headache. is soda really that bad for you? i don't drink it but maybe once a month and i get a migraine that lasts all day. does this happen to anyone else?

Is it diet soda? Artificial sweeteners can do that to some people. I get migraines too and I don't think that's a trigger for me personally, but I've known people for whom it is.

I don't think soda/soft drinks are bad for people in general - but if you are getting horrible headaches, that seems like a pretty good reason for you to stop.
It could be the sweeteners, the caffeine, the flavourings, the colours - clearly there is something that doesn't agree with you.
If you don't want to stop altogether, maybe you could experiment with different flavours - or with plain soda water with perhaps just a squeeze of lemon or lime - and see if you find something you enjoy that doesn't make you feel bad.

It's the aspartame, that they use to sweeten; it with. I have the same problem & it also makes me crave more, calorie dense, less nutritious food.

I can get headaches from too much caffeine in soda (I dont drink tea or coffee) and I can get it from too little caffeine. Sometimes i cant tell the diff (I'll think it a withdrawal headache and have a coke only to find it makes it worse). I generally find my headaches link back to sleep (or lack of) and hydration and that will depend on how I process any caffeine level (high or low).

its probably the aspartame since there is no color or caffeine in sprite it cant be that. I cant have drinks with aspartame in them because I get bad headaches too.

Do you get the same migraines if you drink a normal soda? I have severe migraine headaches and my main triggers are artificial sweeteners. Especially if you notice migraines with sugar free chewing gum or other foods sweetened artificially.

You might be better off drinking the full sugar version, at least as an experiment. Since you drink it so seldom anyway, it should be easy to fit it in your goals. The sweeteners do seem like the most likely culprit, as diet Sprite has hardly anything else in it!
