Hard is relative! I made a decision

I have tried explaining to people how after being fat my entire life I finally have begun the journey to a healthy weight. And every time some one asks my secret and I tell them about MFP, they try it for a week or two then say it is too much work.
Really too much work, well hauling around the weight of an extra human being on your body is pretty damn hard work but weighing food, not so much.
Not being able to enjoy myself at the amusement park or water park for fear of not fitting on a ride was hard work, being able to run intervals for an hour on the treadmill, not so much.
Being too tired all the time to enjoy playing with my daughter was hard, seeing the pride in her eyes as I get healthy, not so much.
Having to limit positions with my husband because it was too uncomfortable to have sex was pretty damn hard, having more energy and freedom to enjoy ourselves again, not so hard. ( well he is but that's a good thing ).
only being able to buy clothes in certain stores because regular stores didn't carry my size was pretty damn hard, being able to walk in any store and know I can find clothes that fit, not hard.
Worrying that my daughter was going to follow in my foot steps and be over weight was hard, seeing her learning about food and exercise and trying to make better decisions is not hard.
I still have a long way to go but I know I am getting there , it's really not that hard it was one decision, one decision I make every single day eat better, exercise more. :drinker:

Exactly!
I'm one of those people who made excuses (it's too hard - I can't do that)
Now I'm working on eating healthier and exercising and I just started the C25K program.
I'm getting sick of people who say, "Why care about your weight? Why count your calories? I feel sorry for people who do that"
The reality is - I feel sorry for people who don't take the time out of their day to ensure that their body is getting the nutrition that it deserves.
I feel sorry for people who don't push themselves to their potential.
I feel sorry for people who feel the need to poison themselves with horrible sugary and fatty foods and then have the nerve to critique me because I refuse to eat them too.
You've it the nail right on the head! Great post!0 -
And because it's "too hard" is why so many people end up yo-yo dieting. I know because I was the same way. I want the quick fix. Who doesn't?! But anything inlife that's worth it takes hard work. Good for you knowing where the priorities should be.0

What a great post! Some people are always looking for the easy way out. Good for you for making the changes you needed to!0

Good for you!
This is pretty much my stance whenever people complain that calorie counting or exercise is too "hard". Maybe it is difficult, but anything worth having usually is.
Congrats on your progress0 -
Great post! I'm starting over AGAIN, but this is the last time. I have decided. I too have a medical condition that is a very good reason to lose weight; was in a car accident a couple of years ago and my back, neck and one hip are getting worse at an accelerated pace and the extra weight is not helping matters. I DON'T want to end up in a wheelchair. You are an inspiration to me, I have to lose as much as you have lost already. Keep up the good work.0

You know this is a really good post. I like this way of putting it. Thank you!0

If being fit and happy was easy, then everyone would do it..0

It's difficult until you get in to a habit! Now, counting calories is second nature. It's so easy, just takes getting used to! Everything takes getting used to. When we were kids getting in the habit of brushing out teeth was hard! But we learned when we got cavities. Unfortunately, learning the hard way about weight loss is life threatening.0

Someone once told me "Losing weight is hard. Being overweight is hard. Pick your hard."
Love that!0 -
EXACTLY!!!!
I've had so many people ask me what I'm doing, and when I tell them, they give me this look like, "Really?" I feel like telling them, "Yeah, actually I eat ice cream and bonbons and the weight just FELL right off!"
I can SO tell when I'm talking to people who ask about losing weight whether or not they're "in the game" or not. Sadly, most are NOT. As Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks character in "A League of Their Own") said, "It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great."
When we went to Disney last month, I wanted to be able to walk around and not have my back hurt. I wanted to be able to ride the rides with my kids without worrying if I was going to fit in the ride or not. I did NOT want my size/weight to be THE thing that kept us from doing stuff. AND it WASN'T. Priceless moment: Sitting in front of "It's a Small World" waiting for hubby and other daughter to come back from Space Mountain with my youngest, and she said, "Let's go have some FUN!"
To OP: WELL SAID!!0 -
