Burned 1.5k how much to eat back?

Hey everyone, so today I burned 1,500 calories according to my heart rate monitor. I'm only eating 1730 and already ate ~400 calories back as I try to eat back about half of what I burn (since I burn such high numbers). Should I be eating back more or is 1/2 calories burned adequate?

How did you burn 1500 calories? A long run or something like that?

What were you doing that your HRM said you burned 1500 calories?

1 hour cycling with high resistance and walking steep hills during a hike for 2 hours (climbed 150ft) during the hike. So any advice about he food?

I would monitor your weight. If you are losing too fast or not losing at all, adjust your calorie burn rate.

I do. I use avatar nutrition to monitor my weight and adjust my macros and calories based off of my loss per week. However in this specific instance since it's such a high burn I'm wondering if half is enough or if I should eat back more.

(since I burn such high numbers).

If your numbers are high - then suspect they are wrong. HRMs do not reliably measure calorie burns.

I would think 1 hour cycling is less than 500, 2 hours walking unless you run the hills - less than 500

I'll keep that in mind. So should I be eating back half or all of it?

MFP is based off the NEAT program which is about 50%-75% of you burned calories. Individual basis is key. What works for you, might not work for someone else. I would start at about 60% back and go from there.

But 1,500 calories sounds like a ton of calories burned in that time frame. Last Sunday I rode 45 miles, maintained 20mph for 35 miles, and only burned 1,800 and change. Over 2 hours and 46 mins. Strava. And that's using a Cadence, Speed, Power Meter, and HRM to figure the calculations.

Thank you! I'll try to figure out a way to better evaluate my calories burned rather than solely with my heart rate monitor's readings. I very much appreciate the explanation with a solid comparison and answering my question. :)
