Whoo hoo! It’s my birthday!
I started my fitness journey in July of 2012. I was looking at pictures of myself and feeling rather disgusted. I knew that I wanted to change, but I was scared to try. My then gf had lost a bunch of weight first using medifast, then MFP. She signed me up for an account but I never used it.
Finally after looking at the Pics of me from that summer I knew I had to make the change. I began by just logging calories and trying to lose the weight. I set two goals, dress up as batman for a Halloween party, and drop enough weight so I could feel comfortable starting a fencing class with my Daughter in October. I lost 35 lbs from July to October. I started fencing and felt confident in my batman outfit.![ ](https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/resources/emoji/smile.png)
After that I kept tracking but stopped losing. Then I felt discouraged and just stopped. I didn’t gain anything back, but I didn’t lose anything either. I kept a reasonable healthy diet and just got complacent.
Then I lost the gf and that spurred the weight loss again. I lost 10 more pounds because I started exercising. I was walking as many miles as I could to keep my mind busy. Then I noticed that my weight was going down and I liked it! GF came back and so did the weight. She left again and so did the weight, but this time it is gone for good and I am kicking off the rest of the weight I don’t want too!
I set some new goals: to like what I see when I take my shirt off at the pool, and to feel sexy naked! I can look in the mirror now and see that I am getting closer and it feel good.
Six weeks ago I started lifting, and it is really working well for me. I can see the muscle starting to fill in on my chest, arms and legs. I have lost inches off my stomach, but I have not lost weight. I am cool with the scale not moving so long as the measuring tape still does.
Having said all that I will close with this; today I feel good about me, and while I might be another calendar year older I feel much younger than I did on my birthday last year, and I am really excited about what I could look like on my birthday next year.

Feel free to add me as a friend if you want to help encourage me on my journey, and keep my feet to the fire if you see me start to drift off. I love to see people reach their goals and I hope to share in that journey with you.
