Knees killing me.

I'm on day 39/90 of free work out videos on youtube (Bikini Body Mommy 5.0) and for the past few weeks my knees always hurt and pop constantly and harder than they used to. (Even at night I'll straighten my legs and they'll crack/pop). This work out has lunges and squats so I suppose it's probably a lot on my knees. Will this get better with time? Fine to continue my regular workouts?

does this workout have a lot of jumping and bouncing exercises (I'm not familiar with the routine)? If it does, you might want to cut down on the high-impact stuff until your legs/glutes/etc get stronger and can take more of the strain off your knees.

@ccrdragon yes it does have some! Thanks. I'll try modifying where I can.

No if knee pain is increasing it is not fine to continue what you were doing. Either make it lower impact or try something else-like swimming for awhile.

You may be missing a proper warm-up. Google "DeFranco's Limber 11".

Check your form too. Film yourself and compare to form videos on YouTube (I like Alan Thrall).

Also you may need to strengthen your core to execute proper form. Strong Curves may help.

when i started working out, doing lunges & squats hurt my knees (the tendon in front of my knees, more specifically). i had to call time out and work on getting my core up to snuff before going back. my go-to exercises for a couple of weeks were cat stretches, floor bridges, exercise ball leg lifts, and bird-dog stretching...all while keeping a tight core while doing them. now when i do them, i can feel it in the right places...glutes, hamstrings, & core. like @ccrdragon said, you might have to work up to the higher impact stuff. don't wanna risk injuring yourself. good luck!

lunges are knee killers, i rarely do them. Also , your profile says you have 137 to lose, so thats a lot of extra weight on your knees when you are doing these exercises. Take it easy on them , each squat you do is the equivalent of a weighted squat and if your form isn't spot on, its gonna hurt and could even do damage . You can try using something like suspension trainer, like the TRX, to assist doing lunges or squats while you lose weight and gain strength. and it would be much easier on your knees

I also suggest you do something else. These Challenges can kill you. And just because something is on YouTube doesn't mean it isn't dangerous. Or at the least unsafe.

Everyone wants results yesterday. I get that. But if you slow down and go steady, without hurting yourself, you will be a lot better off.

Pain is your body's way of saying "STOP!". Contrary to what a lot of people think, fitness is not supposed to be painful. Hard? Sure. But not painful. I would bet that your biomechanics are off and that you are not using proper form for the lunges and squats which is causing the pain. This won't go away, it will only get worse.

I would recommend you stop until you no longer have any pain and then slowly start building back up. Learn about proper form and how to build up an exercise routine properly. Too many people start too hard, too fast and hurt themselves. See if you can find a good fitness person to consult with.

Thank you everyone! I will be proud of how far I came this time and beat this score someday when I'm in better shape!! I thought I shouldn't continue but wanted to make sure I wasn't just making an excuse. I was almost half way done! Thanks again.

I also had a lot of pain in my knees & lots of popping/ cracking when straightening them. My doctor diagnosed me with patellar (sp?) instability - something women are particularly prone to, apparently. He sent me to a physical therapist which helped a lot. They had me do a lot of very specific exercises to strengthen the muscles in my hips & around the knees. Just something to think about if the pain and popping don't stop.

if u had a problems with your knees during exercise, i suggest you to do your exercise slow and steady, if the exercise should had a jumping, u dont have to jump harder.. take it slowly. hope u get better soon :)

First lose the majority of the excess weight. Perhaps do strength training instead of cardio.

I had the same problem so I started doing assisted squats and I avoid the lunges they are a bad idea for me as I'm a pretty good sized gal. I have also started using an exercise ball against a wall and squatting that way for a little variation when I get tired using the straps.

I have injured this tendon enough that I am in physical therapy now. I walk a lot, ride bike (can't get up those pesky hills), and I clean houses for a living (lots of squatting, kneeling, bending) and I was told that my muscles from the knees to my hips are very weak, I was surprised to hear that, but it is what it is. Now my bike riding is limited to flat surfaces only :(

Thanks again for your advice every one. I'm now down a total of 51 pounds with more to go. My knee pain took TWO MONTHS to resolve. Listen to your body people ;)
