ABS when cutting.

Is it possible to build/improve my abs whilst cutting? I know I can cut the fat from my stomach with the correct diet and training... but wouldn't I be better to do cardio to remove the fat, rather than trying to actually build muscles? Or should I do both abs and cardio?

I very much regret not training my abs when 'bulking' to ensure I have muscle underneath any body fat that may have been hiding them.

Well you need to make a decision..to cut? or to build? Can't effectively do both. You can still strengthen your core with ab exercises whilst cutting but forget about building any substantial mass.

Best thing you can do is keep weight training and eat in a deficit. Even if you aren't one who is building muscle in a deficit, you want to at least SAVE it so it's there once the fat is gone...yeah? And you aren't going to get that look with tons of cardio, let alone cardio and no weight training.

I'm a pretty firm believer in minimal isolation work for abs during a cut. Seems like a bit of a waste to me. Compound lifts are still heavy enough to be working abs/core to help prevent lbm loss.

Also yeah, when I was bulking it was pretty much the only time I isolated abs. Even then it wasn't much and I'm regretting it a little now...though I knew I would.
