Ginger - 25-50 grams daily? Fresh root.

Is there any particular risk to eating 25-50 grams of fresh ginger root in a smoothie each day? Along with a handful of cilantro, a handful of kale, 2 cloves garlic, and a whole lemon.

Specifically, I have concerns regarding the ginger.

The University of Maryland recommends that in general, do not take more than 4g: umm.edu/health/medical/altmed/herb/ginger

I usually just take a whole half fist size of ginger, peel it up, and throw it in the blender. I noticed some brusing on my leg the other day that became of it after I started using the ginger. I also take note of some leg itching, which gets rather uncomfortable (although that could be the heat and abrasion from pants in 95+ degree weather).

    Regards

It is rare to have side effects from ginger. In high doses it may cause mild heartburn, diarrhea, and irritation of the mouth.

That's why I was curious. I saw that article you linked, which leads me to seek the possible effect of higher dose intake. i can't seem to find anything specific on toxicity or the like with 25-50 grams, or simply put, a regular piece of ginger a day.

Well..being the extremist that I am, if I found nothing about toxicity on a substance I was considering mega-dosing, I would "max the envelope" and go for 2-3oz (56-84g) Divided doses of course

It's pretty important to me since it seems to boost my cognition significantly.

As someone who worked in a sushi restaurant and consumed ginger daily and in large amounts, I can say I haven't experienced or seen adverse effects from consuming large amounts (about an eight to a quarter cup) of ginger. However, some people may be sensitive, so I'd start out with a small amount if you're worried and up it every few weeks if you don't see negative effects.
