Weightloss is caused by a calorie deficit, not by whether you do cardio or strength training.
Fat doesn't "turn into" muscle, it's not a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. You burn fat and you build muscle.

Cardio is great for cardiovascular (heart) health & strength training is great for building strength and can help reduce muscle loss while on a calorie deficit.

You're doing fine, just keep your calories accurate and you'll see results.

I'm pretty sure people know that fat doesn't turn into muscle, and that muscle merely replaces the fat...it's just what everyone says...

Also "toning" is really just the process of losing fat to reveal your muscle. Is hard to build muscle while in a deficit (even when I was in. Surplus I gained muscle very slowly, 22year old male lifting 5 days a week). That's not to say you can't make some strength gains though.

Your focus should be retaining as much muscle as possible. Are you following an established lifting program?

    1) make sure you're eating a calorie deficit every day. You cannot outrun a bad diet; 2) Strength training is great for toning up and it will also make your muscles stronger, which will help you run faster, which will help you burn more calories and 3) sounds like you're doing plenty of cardio, just beware of the traps sometimes we fall into. Always push yourself, the faster you run, the more calories you burn. Also try changing up the cardio every once and a while. The body is an amazing machine and will find a homeostasis very quickly. Adding HIIT, rowing, bootcamp, zumba, spin, or whatever else you enjoy doing you will activate different muscles and different fibers (fast twitch vs slow twitch). This is particularly helpful for me when I plateau and keeps me from getting bored.

    Good luck!
