It's paid for through taxes. Depending on where you are it's taken directly off your paycheque or it's an extra bill you pay each month. Then, on top of that, a lot of Canadians have insurance to help pay for prescriptions and procedures.
Because of this, if you have to go to the doctor you do not have to pay for that trip- but you've still technically paid for that convenience.

So we pay taxes to cover this. When I had my credit section we paid nothing. No co pay no nothing up front. No Canadians go into debt for medical procedures.
For my dad's cancer treatments he had cat scans monthly and my mom is still living conformably off if savings
