I'm using the Ideal Protein phase 1 plan. Even if you don't buy the Ideal Protein products, you can Google substitutes or alternatives. The products are high protein which helps with muscle tone as you reduce weight.

Here are some very basic, and generalized tips.

    1) Use MFP and track your food intake consistently.
    2) Lift weights and ideally use a reputable program. Hopefully someone will chime in here with the link that @psulemon created listing some of those programs.
    3) Eat "mostly" nutritious and minimally refined foods. 80/20 rule is a reasonable starting point.
    4) You should probably eat somewhere between 1g/lb LBM and 1g/lb BW in protein. If you are overweight or if you have obesity, 1g/lb goal weight is probably going to be a reasonable target.
    5) Keep some basic metrics like circumference measurements, body-weight, photographs, etc.

Finally, don't get too caught up in minor details. If you are getting stronger in the gym and you are mindful about your diet then good things will happen if you stay consistent.

All of this, and here is the link to those lifting programs
