Calories Calculated

Hi,
Out of interest how many of you out there had to readjust their calories that MFP suggested and how many of you have stuck to what was suggested and are successfully losing.
I'm 5ft 8.5, 12st 10 and lightly active. I've been given 1660 a day. Anybody similar? x

I get adjustments to mine based on my activity from my Fitbit. Typically I get to eat more.

Keep in mind MFP gives you a goal to NET (calories consumed - exercise = NET) and as such you should also eat a portion of your exercise calories.

    1660 is a starting point.

MFP gives you calories BEFORE exercise. If you do a workout & log it in MFP, you will "earn" additional calories. Lightly active is based upon your job only.

If your workouts are consistent and you don't want to log them (calorie burn accuracy is highly questionable anyway) - then google your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure).....aka maintenance. Include exercise in this number & just take your daily cut off the top. Then you have no need to log exercise.

I started at MFP'S goal of 1230 (that was 1lb per week loss). That didn't last long. Losing too quickly. I manually upped it to 1300-1350 but noticed I still lost too quickly. I then switched to .5lb loss and was upped to 1470. That worked for a little while but again, I started noticing I was still losing more quickly than I wanted.

That's when I really sat down and looked at all my numbers, MFP and Fitbit, and realized I'm not really sedentary. I switched it to lightly active, still .5lb per week, and went up to 1690 (currently at 1640 due to weight lost) and things have been much better. Losing between .5-1lb per week now with only 9lbs to go. Eating back anywhere from 25-70% of my exercise calories depending on how I feel after my workout.

I expect it to slow down more when I start my next lifting program as I will be changing my intake to maintenance and recomping.

I manually set my calories in between the sedentary and lightly active settings. The sedentary calories are too low for me, plus I'm not sedentary, and lightly active put too much pressure on me to exercise my *kitten* off everyday. I turn into sloth mode at around 5pm every day and go to bed at around 7pm, and was losing quite a few calories every night because of this (when i was set at lightly active).
