Do you count cleaning as part of your exercise?

I have my activity level as sedentary and then I add my workouts that I do but I've been also adding in cleaning I do around the house. Is this a bad thing? When I put sedentary as my activity level does that consider small tasks like cleaning? I add cleaning to my exercises when I clean my room or clean around the house for about 40 - 1 hr.

I track cleaning when it is 45 minutes+ consecutively because that isn't an every day thing for me. So unless you do that much every day which wouldn't make you sedentary then I would count it.0

I don't. Not even big cleaning days. Mostly because it doesn't get my heart rate up like exercise does, so I'm not really getting any kind of sustained burn happening. Also because I've done chores, big and small, my whole life. None of it worked as exercise to help keep me from gaining weight over the years and I never thought of doing chores as a way of working out or staying active when I was overweight, so I don't think of it that way now.
Cleaning is just a regular part of life that we have to do or end up living in filth. So I don't see it as something that should be logged as a dedicated workout.0 -
Just general house work, no way....are you burning a few calories...sure...is it substantial enough to log and eat those back...no way. If I have a big landscaping day or something I might treat myself to a few extra beers, but that's it. Exercise is exercise...not doing the dishes or vacuuming.0
-
It's not exercise so no, I don't log it as such.0
-
If you want to eat more, change your target.0

Some days I count throwing darts as part of my exercise but only if I can get a triple 20.0

Also, just in case you weren't aware of this feature, when you go to the message boards section, there is a button called search and you can type in a keyword/phrase (ex: cleaning exercise) and you can see the threads that have already been created on the topic. Good luck!:flowerforyou:

Really??? a bit of overkill maybe....hehe
AS for me no I do not count my cleaning as exercise...now mind you if your house is a pig sty and you only clean it say once a month and you do a great job and don't stop all day except to eat scrubbing and scraping etc yes count that...0 -
No cause the maid does it!:laugh:0

If it is outside of the norm I do. I don't track doing dishes because I do that every night. I do track when I do heavy cleaning or laundry dance parties with my son (an easy way to keep him entertained while exercising and doing the laundry). Today I spent over an hour loading and unloading a box truck at work. I recorded that under cleaning because it was the closest thing to what I did.0

No, its not exercise. If you want to see exactly what you're burning, maybe get a HRM or a fitbit?0

nope never count it but that's because it's always been a part of my daily life. i cleaned when i was fat and i clean now that i'm healthy and i'll still be cleaning regardless of where i am in my life.0

If you're talking about the olympic lift "cleaning", then I would count that as exercise. If you're talking about tiding up your house, then no that's just part of life.0
-
If it didn't help you get your dream body by now it's not going to! <---- my philosophy for what to count as a workout ????0
-
If it's prolonged and you break a sweat, it's a workout. I don't log it, though.0
-
The only time I count cleaning is when I am being hired to do it because its very intensive. I have a time limit, take only a couple, 10 minute breaks and am usually in the house all day from 9-5. Of course, I am talking about a really dirty house that hasn't seen a sponge or detergent in months.0
-
I do if its a big job. I logged it when I cleaned out our pool for the summer or if I cleaned out closets, but not everyday stuff.0

This. No one got skinny from cleaning their house.0
