Let me start off by saying I am not in love with running, I've never been a runner. Through my weight loss journey I decided I needed to work out more and last week I began "couch to 5k" I set a goal for sometime this fall of early winter to begin a 5k and my mom is going to run it with me. Any tips for the first time for me running a 5k? Diet, running, activewear tips and anything else are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Enjoy it. I always run faster during a 5k just because of the energy of the crowd. Don't be upset if you need to walk part of it - I walk the hills. Just have fun! A tutu is always fun to wear when appropriate for the race. I never run at all, except during 5ks so I'm no serious expert runner...2

#1 thing is HAVE FUN. You put in the work(which is awesome!) now is time to enjoy. (When you get there) also, try to run in practice what you will run in at the 5k(same shoes,socks,shorts,etc)1

Good for you! I did a 5k awhile back and was injured sometime after that and never got back into it. I started again recently after losing some excess weight and I'm doing the couch to 5K too! I find that staying hydrated and after post workout recover drinks and staying up on your protein intake has helped me not only stay lean for my runs but also given me the energy but also replace what I lost after my run. Keep going!!!0

It's a 5K, don't overthink it.
Follow the plan, relax and enjoy yourself.
No need to have specific diet or gear advice, although I'd generally suggest dedicated running shoes that you don't use for anything else.

Don't do anything you haven't done in training.
Enjoy!0 -
Practice eating and running at the same times as your 5k will be. Eg if your race is in the morning do one or two practises at the same time. For me I like to eat porridge 2 hours before a race so I have to set the alarm for an early morning race. Evening races are trickier as they seem to fall when I would normally be tucking into my dinner.
As others have said - enjoy your race, take lots of pictures and be proud of your finish medal, t shirt etc. Good luck0 -
Honestly just continue your c25k app it will get you there. Dress comfy in work out clothes i wear shorts and a sports bra when i run and buy lightweight comfy running shoes. Falling in love with running isnt easy but it will happen the better you get at it. I run a 5k 3 times a week and i hate the days i dont do it. But with 2 kids i have limited time to exercise. Im running my first social 5k this coming saturday and i cant wait.0

1) Have fun. Before anything else Have Fun.
2) Create a good play list. Music makes the miles fly by.
But honestly it. It's a 5K don't over think it. As people have mentioned before. Complete your training show up for race day, and rock it.0 -
Do it for yourself and don't worry about those around you... ok, yeah - it's a "race" and you don't want to be last but you'll get the most satisfaction from just FINISHING
Your 1st one is the standard you set the ones to follow - beat yourself, not those around you! and HAVE FUN!!
