It is time for a new pair of jeans? or wait?
I bet there are lots of people here with the same problem...
I started in January when old pants in 14 Petite were kind of snug. Took me 2 months to drop down to where I was fitting into 12 - I bought 3 pairs of jeans in 12 as I had nothing to wear at home and for casual. Then everything slowed down, and I've been losing very gradually, so another 4 months down the road I am finally fitting allright into size 10 (just tried them on at Gap). The 12's are loose, but not falling off - at least not with the belt. Based on the pace I am going now, I won't get to size 8 till October, so I have 4 months of baggy jeans ahead of me if I don't buy the 10s... so what would you do? Break down and buy a couple pairs or hold out and wait till 8 fits? (I'm definitely buying an 8 cause I have my doubts I'll ever make it back into 6!)
So, to buy or not to buy? Or is 'one size too big' an illusion of a difference that is not that noticeable to others?

If you fit in the next size down - why not get them? I went clothes shopping when I dropped a size (granted I only went through two so far) because it made me feel good to have clothes that fit - plus they make me look better then the baggy ones I was wearing.0

It's never a bad time to buy new jeans! Haha, worst case scenario you could always donate them to charity0

I can't spend the money on every size! I'm sporting the baggy look right now. My plan is to buy one nice pair of petite jeans (on sale) to wear out, then hit Goodwill to get me through the rest. Yeah, you can NEVER find petite, used but I don't care about wearing pants that I've cut to size around the house! You could also hem them if you sew and you find it worth the trouble. Good luck!0

I recently went shopping and bought a pair of shorts because they were 2 sizes smaller than the size I was wearing when I started dieting. I thought, "These 8's fit me! I'm buying them!" I was also going to buy them in a 6 because that's my goal size and I really liked the shorts, but I didn't for fear I wouldn't ever get there. I regret it. So my advice is to buy them if you like them instead of regretting not buying them.0

I'm also one to only pay Goodwill prices for jeans I know I won't be in for long. I just recently went down from a size 16 New York & Company dress pants to a size 14 which I had, waiting at the top of my closet. I went to Goodwill and got two pairs of jeans one a size 12 and one a size 14. The size 16's i have now are really loose and I'm about to get into the 14's and put the 16's in the box that goes back to the Goodwill.
I say get the smaller size! Even if they are snug, for me, it's motivation to get the smaller size pants swimming on me!0 -
Personally I would buy the jeans but I have no problems spending money on clothes :laugh:0

if money isnt an issue then buy them.. if it is then thrift store!!0

The thing is, most look bad in ill-fitting clothing.
I got very few comments about my weight loss until I went down in size. I look smaller.
Now I'm at the point where my pants are too big again, and I look droopy. It's not a pretty look.
It's the summer (well, it is here) .. dresses go a long way, especially if you can belt them!
Congrats on the loss and moving down sizes so fast!
I shop for used clothing for the most part - I won't spend a ton of money on temporary sizes!0 -
I've dropped from a ( snug ) 48" waist to 38" and i'm still wearing my "good" jeans to work.....the owner says i look like a hobo, I just tell him to give me a raise to buy new clothes....0

I bought a whole new wardrobe, practically, when I got to size 8 because I thought that's where I'd maintain. Now I'm sad I didn't wait, as my 8s are all too big, and I don't want to shell out big bucks for all 6s! I agree that going to the charity or thrift shops is a great option when you're still losing. I usually bought one or two nice things, new, during my weight loss, and the rest came from thrift stores.0

I went from a 12 to a 6. I have an extra long inseam, and like you, have a difficult time finding jeans that fit. I wore saggy jeans as long as I could before switching sizes, but even then I still went down one size at a time. Luckily, I still had some of my smaller jeans in the guest room closet, which saved me some.
I've actually ended up smaller than any of my old shorts, so I need to buy some more of those. Today I wore a pair to work that seemed OK, but have started falling down more and more at the day progresses. I've staple altered them for now0 -
I buy transition clothes at thrift shops and outlet stores (brand new jeans $6.00). I have also done clothing swaps with other friends who are also on a weight loss journey.0

I bought new pants when I could slip them off to use the bathroom without unbuttoning or unzipping them. I was wearing size 12 and bought size 6. . .so, I may have waited a bit longer than you! LOL!!! It took a year to make that progress so I was in baggy clothes for quite awhile. What can I say, I'm cheap.0

I'm in the same spot as you... I started at size 16 and bought a pair of size 10 jeans from the Gap this week! I've been at a size 12 for what seems like forever (probably 2 months), and you're right about the weight coming off more and more slowly.
For size 12 I bought two pairs of jeans (I had some size 14 dress pants in my closet from when I was "smaller" than my starting weight on MFP) and made due for work with dresses and what not.
For size 10, I've bought one pair of nice jeans and one pair of dress pants. My bigger dress pants are starting to look too ridiculous to wear in a office setting. I figure I can get away with some dresses for summer and that the one pair would be enough. My other size 12 jeans will supplement me for a while, too.
It's so hard to know, I am in the same boat. I don't want to buy a new wardrobe until I'm much closer to my goal, but I need to be able to look professional for business meetings, etc. I also just want to look good! I have worked hard to lose weight and I want it to be visible! I've bought 3-4 dresses that have a tie or elastic waist or have a belted waist that I will be able to wear for a while since they're mediums, also.
I don't know if this is any helpful information at all, just know we're all going through that dilemma!0 -
Thrift Store, Thrift Store, Thrift Store!!
No way would I buy clothing full price when you are still losing weight.
But, then again, I like shopping there anyways, designer clothes for pennies on the dollar, yes please!! :laugh:0 -

LOL me too. The last pair of jeans slipped right off me and I wasn't prepared. Luckily, I was in the privacy of my own home and I was running around, cleaning and stuff when I realized...uh...why are my pants half way off my butt!
I giggled, then put those jeans into the Goodwill give away box and grabbed the size 14's I had at the top of my closet0
