On another discussion Group I belong to everyne swears but Premier Protein Shakes, which I thi are pretty ok as far as flavor, however in GNC today I came across Pure Pro50 which has 50 grams of protein, 3 grams of sugar and only. 2 grams of fat, and 250 calories.

1. Will these work as weight loss, using 1 a day? The bottle is 14.5 ounces, so it will last me at leat an hour or two to drink

2. How is the taste?

That depends on what else you are eating throughout the day. There is nothing in any protein powder which will create weight loss. It's a matter of finding a way to eat fewer calories in a day than you burn (including basic daily functioning and exercise). There's nothing magical in any powder, you can eat real food and still lose weight. I use powder when I need a quick breakfast that will keep me full, or if I'm low on protein that day.

Just adding in a protein shake will not make you lose weight. Weight loss is a result of a caloric deficit. Certainly, a good protein supplement is great, as protein helps to protect muscle mass as you diet down in weight and keeps you fuller. However, weight loss comes down to the overall context of your diet (calories and macros). Add it in to get your protein macro up to where it should be, but focus on overall calories, as that's the more important factor.

What I do and what I recommend to people is to eat at a calorie level that allows you to make good progress towards your goal. If you are trying to lose weight, eat so you drop 1-2 lbs/week. This assumes an average calorie burn from you getting in all of your workouts. This will be different for everyone, so you'll have to do some trial and error to figure it out. I'd start ~1600 cal/day. Hit this goal, along with your macros and getting in your workouts, for 2 weeks. If you lose 1-2 lbs/week, you're good to go. If you lose too much, increase your intake and repeat. If you don't lose enough, reduce your intake a bit and repeat. After a few cycles, you'll figure out what works for you in your situation.

Certainly, exercise helps a lot too!

Protein powders (instead of ready made shakes) will save you a ton of money. Make them with low fat milk for even more protein punch. Get a cheap blender or mixer.
Fast to make after a workout. Prevents me from eating junk afterwards. I like Pure Protein from walmart (not expensive). The powders tend to have less calories than ready-made if you make them with water (possibly even made with skim milk).
