Question about Fitbit steps and logging exercise

Hi,

Today I've logged 13,000 steps which has equalled 400ish calories.

I ran for an hour which also equated to 400ish calories...

But those steps while running are part of the total steps so should I discount one of the calories used??

It always confuses me... Help!!

That probably explains it better... Should I delete the steps or the run calories...??

Honestly, I just got a FitBit Surge and only really use it to track how many calories I burn during a workout. I don't like it switching up my calories near the end of the day on MFP. I like to plan ahead. So I disconnected the two apps, and just log my exercise in MFP from what the fitbit tells me.

Sorry I'm not more help here, but in this case you could try cutting the calories from the total steps you've taken in half in your head. So basically, in this example, you'd have about 1700 cals left rather than 1900.

if you are using your fitbit to log your steps then you don't want to log them as exercise as well because then you are double counting.

    Thanks guys...

I only use the Fitbit for steps, as I've forgotten to activate the 'exercise/activity' thing so many times ...

I don't usually log both (steps and exercise) but wondered if there was a way of calculating both calories expended...

I'll just carry on as I was and delete one of them today.

It doesn't double count. MFP will ask for the start and end times for the exercise, and will use its estimation to overwrite what Fitbit says was burned during that time. That being said, Fitbit already accounts for all step based activity, so you don't need to log running. It already determines your calories burned based on the number of steps and speed you went in that time.

I enabled Negative Adjustments so my steps wouldn't be doubled for step based exercise. You log in through your browser (not the app), go to My Home, go to Settings, go down to Calorie Adjustments, then click on Enable Negative Adjustments. This is how my exercise looks so far for today. b4m9c0cf4vjs.png

don't log exercise if you have your activity tracker sync'd without negative adjustments.
