Is skipping breakfast a bad thing?

I'm confused about this topic. I skip breakfast if I'm not hungry.. And I feel like weight loss is going to happen if I just stick to my calorie deficit. I've also heard skipping breakfast slows the metabolism though.. Thoughts?

It doesn't matter when you eat. Just make sure that skipping breakfast doesn't cause you to overeat later in the day.11

No skipping breakfast doesn't slow your metabolism, don't worry about it. It's all about the calories, not the time that you eat3

Skipping breakfast doesn't hurt anything. All you need is a calorie deficit to lose weight.4

I skip breakfast every day. Still losing weight.
I'm not hungry until 1:00PM most days. Eating breakfast first makes me feel nauseous, then makes me way hungrier than normal for the rest of the day.9 -
Do what works for you. If skipping breakfast doesn't seem to do any harm, don't worry about it.
For me, I need to eat something in the morning, or I don't feel well (light headed, easily distracted, etc.). I eat a light breakfast and a snack later and then lunch and I'm usually good for another several hours, when I have dinner. Most of my calories come before 1 PM, but that's what works for me. Everyone is an individual and your needs might be different from mine.1 -
I understood it slowed metabolism. The body stores carbs as fat if it is not getting regular food or exercise. Just what I understood
This is a myth. Your metabolism won't slow down due to not eating one meal. There are tons of successful people here who either don't eat breakfast or practice intermittent fasting (not eating for a set period of time in a 24-hour period).5 -
I don't eat breakfast because I'm not hungry in the morning. I'd rather save my calories for food I actually want to eat!6

Starting my meals later in the day has been the best thing that ever happened to me. Now I don't have to eat when I don't feel like it, I'm not starving all day (which an early breakfast causes for me), and I have enough calories left for a snack at night when I actually do want to eat5

It's a personal preference thing. Not eating first thing in the morning won't affect weight loss / metabolism.1

Thank you all so much!!! This takes the pressure off of me not feeling like I failed, because I didn't force myself to eat breakfast1

It is fine to skip breakfast if you don't want to eat it. Your metabolism will work just fine.0

Not sure if anyone mentioned that it is just personal preference?4

On the one hand, I love that we have so much information available to us on the internet. On the other hand, you can find articles or blogs in favor of any side of an argument, the information is often biased depending on the author, and a lot of it is opinion rather than fact. I never really know if I can trust information that I read anymore. I've heard it said a lot that people who eat breakfast generally lose more weight than those that don't (and that's why 10 years ago or so I started eating breakfast). But I just now did a search to see if I could find anything about it and the first 3 articles were actually saying breakfast isn't the big deal that people have made it out to be. So much for my last 10 years of breakfasts.
To sum up, this.I skip breakfast every day. Still losing weight.0 -
I usually skip breakfast unless it's the weekend and I'm making pancakes or waffles and bacon for everybody.
I do have to have my cuppa coffee every morning, though. That's *never* an option.
When you eat doesn't matter one bit. It's personal preference.3 -
I usually only have coffee for breakfast, its not often that i eat before around 1/2pm.
only time i actually eat breakfast daily is when on holiday and that because its like just what you do right lol2 -
If I'm not hungry I skip breakfast, but if I'm hungry I will eat it.0

It's the most important meal of the day.
Just kidding, it doesn't matter3 -
If you find yourself not hungry for long periods of time, it may be easy for you to try intermittent fasting, which has been shown to actually help with weight loss. https://www.myliporidex.com/blog/fit-body-intermittent-fasting/0

Don't try to force yourself into eating when you aren't hungry, just because you think you "should." I don't know about you, but eating due to social pressure or expectations is one reason I wound up 100 pounds overweight in the first place.1

I thought, and asked, the same a few weeks ago. After being told by so many "experts" about kickstarting metabolism the actual scientists have a different opinion.
For some people if they skip breakfast they eat more for lunch and dinner. That's some people, do whatever is good for you though.2 -
Some call it intermittent fasting.0
