To Fitbit or not to Fitbit?

I realize I'm not ready for drastic food life change and workout/lifestyle change. I'm trying to ease myself into the process to avoid quitting so quickly. Im starting with monitoring my food intake using MFP. I've been reading about a lot of people that use MFP with Fitbit to not only monitor calories, but also activity level. Is it really worth it? Or just another piece of tech that can easily be done with an iPhone?

I have a Fitbit, and I really enjoy it. I like that it gives me a picture of how active I am on any given day so I can adjust my calories accordingly. It's NOT necessary. I lost 20 pounds, maintained a healthy weight during pregnancy, and then lost all of the baby weight before I ever had a Fitbit. And there are apps that you can use to count steps on your phone (although I suppose that means you have to carry your phone around all the time, whereas a Fitbit can be clipped to your clothes or worn on your wrist).

I only got a Fitbit because my mother gave my husband and me each a Flex for Christmas 2014. I wore it all last year, and I feel like it really motivated me to move more. And I love data, so I enjoy all of the graphs and statistics and information that it provides. This year I got the Alta for my birthday, and I love it even more! Honestly, I picked it because it's also a watch, and I wanted to not wear two things on my wrist at once. But the notifications from my phone are handy, and I REALLY like the activity reminders (if you don't take at least 250 steps an hour, it prompts you to go for a walk), and the little celebrations when I hit a mini-goal or my daily goal are fun. I also enjoy the little challenges where you can compete with other Fitbit users on your friends list, but I admit I don't do that very often.
