Amerithon Challenge Participants?

I just signed up for one of those online "races" where you track your miles digitally (manually logging or connected via FitBit or Garmin). This one can be completed solo or in a team up to eight to complete the distance. The total distance is 3,521 miles and no set time limit to complete it, but hopefully under a year (we are shooting for NYE). As I just completed a year with my fitbit and had accumulated over 1800 miles, it seemed like a fun challenge to do with a couple of buddies and realistic to get done by the end of the year with 3 people.

Has anyone else done a virtual race or heard about something like this? I think it will be great to keep up the pace of getting out and about for months, not just a short term "challenge" that lasts a week or so. You can track miles via running, swimming, biking, etc.

I was just curious if anyone had heard about it or done anything like this. I searched the forum and didn't see anything. So, any insight on your experiences with this type of race would be appreciated!
