Chinese takeout

Hey - I've been tracking my macros for a couple of weeks now and been pretty good at planning my days... What do you do when after lunch a spanner is thrown in the works and all of your friends invite you for Chinese food... I know the standard answer is go an enjoy it but there will be excuses for me all the time to join them for meals... Anybody got healthy suggestions for Chinese restaurants?...

stir fry veggies, steamed dumplings, Vietnamese spring rolls, soup and 1/2 a cup of what ever is your favorite. For me its General Tso Chicken. (not that healthy but it cures my craving)0

Steamed mixed veggies with chicken, sauce on the side.... white rice, not fried rice- in a decent sized, not gigantic portion☺0

Lots of Asian cuisine places near me have a section of the menu devoted to lighter options - generally steamed and stir fried veggies and soups. Choose something that isn't fried or covered in sugary sauce. If you have the option, choose a Vietnamese place over a Chinese place - in my experience the dishes are more traditional and healthier than the typical Westernized Chinese restaurant. Or if the Chinese place is a really good one, they might have a section of the menu for traditional dishes - choose one of those. If the dish does have sauce, ask for it on the side if possible. Mentally partition off half your meal right away and only eat that much - the rest goes home as leftovers (some people like to box up half right away, but that can seem kind of weird if you're in a group and don't want to answer a lot of questions about what you're doing). Drink lots of water before, during and after the meal.0

the plain rice and steamed meat and veggies. Don't get anything fried. And ask for a take out container so when your food comes, put half of it in so you eat a healthy sized portion.0

I usually get hot and sour soup with plus dumplings/potstickers. Some places have grilled chicken or shrimp skewers, or are willing to go light on the oil for stir-fry. I like appetizers, and the plain/steamed meat & veg option makes me sad.
Look at the nutritional information for chains like Panda Express and PF Changs to get a rough idea of calorie counts, and pre-plan your trip.1 -
moo goo gai pan steamed veg, chicken in a white sauce.0

I haven't been out for Chinese since I started logging calories this week. However, I usually start with Hot and Sour soup. I then try to get something with a lot of vegetables. I am going to have to start asking for light or no sauce on my favorites: Moo Shu Chicken/vegetables and Kung Pao chicken. I will probably have to give up my other favorites: Egg foo Young and Lo Mein.0
