Handline The Urge to Binge

Hi all,

I have been struggling with binge eating for some time now. Its really been sabotaging my diet plan and it very defeating when its all over. I know my binge eating more than likely goes much deeper than just hunger, especially because I usually only binge after a meal or when I am full... Strange right?

So I am aware that this issue is not just my own, and I'm hoping to get some aid in handling it a little better. I usually will binge about 3+ times a week, up to 8,000 calories in a day. Nothing I eat is satisfying and I feel like I dont even think while its happening.

What are some things that I can do to help myself? Please help, and thank you in advance for sharing.

I'm an emotional binger and once I start I don't usually stop until I fall asleep or feel like I'm going to burst (and then I still might try to eat more). For me, recognizing that something is off emotionally BEFORE I get to the binge stage is key. Whether it's stress from work, a messy apartment, or my own personal issues with every single person I know being pregnant right now, I have been learning to recognize my stressors and deal with them before they take over my life. Talking therapy and journaling have been a huge help for me.

If your binges are anything like mine, you might want to work on trying to figure out the reasons for the binge. While you're eating, try to figure out what you're feeling or what you're trying not to feel. Make lists of all the things that are bothering you right now and work on sorting them out. Talk to someone, and not necessarily a therapist. A good friend, family member, pastor, whatever. It may not help entirely, but it's a place to start.

    Hi!

Like you guys, I used to binge eat, too when I was trying to "bulk" and gain muscle(it worked a little xD) It was really bad haha... Anyway I started a diet called a Keto diet, you may know a variation of it, "Atkins". This diet has helped me with cravings so much, I haven't binged or cheated(haven't even thought about it) since day one. Basically this diet is made up of 65% fat by calories, 35% protein, and 5% carbs, with 20g being the limit, and those are mostly made up of veggies. This forces your body into a state called "ketogenesis", this happens when your body goes from a state of burning glycogen(which comes from carbohydrates) to burning fat. Yes, your very own body fat. Your body is driven by a new energy source called ketones(broken down fats), which are preferred by the heart. Ketones also naturally supress appetite, ALOT. It is used by a lot of binge eaters to get their eating habits straight. PM me for more info if you want it. And, no, fat does not make you fat(but when paired with carbs they do(;)
