It depends, from what I understand the artificial sugar (sucrose) that we commonly buy in supermarkets, is added to fizzy drinks, sweets, chocolate and tea/coffee will do harm and generally slow down weight-loss. The sugar that is natural (fructose) found in fruits, vegetables and juices should not effect weight loss, it breaks down easier. Atleast that's what i have found so far and what I have always been told. X0

I am in the same boat as you. I don't each any sweets, but of course, the natural sugar in everything is what is killing me. I am usually under with everything else. I will also watch for responses to this question. GOOD LUCK!!0

Also, to eat the reccomended 5 a day and not go over is virtually impossable.0

I quit tracking my sugar on here because just to eat my apple and orange per day would put me over and they have natural sugars.
It will only hurt you in the long run if you are pigging out on ding dongs all day. If you are eating 3-5 servings of fruits and veggies and tracking your Sugar on MFP ... you are still ok b/c it is all natural sugar.
The main thing to track is Sodium. The Sodium will cause you to retain water.0 -
i think it really depends on what type of sugar you are eating. I do not eat anything that has white sugar, white flour or high fructose corn syrup in it. If my sugar is over the alottment it's "good" sugar, natural sugar. In the past when I've let these not so good ingredients back into my meals, I definitely saw a difference in my weight loss. If I want something sweet, I will have a peanut butter luna bar or a piece of dark chocolate (60% cocoa). I don't track my sugar, only protein, carbs, fat, cholesterol, sodium and calories. As long as my sodium is under 700 mgs PER MEAL, I am consistently losing weight. Calories are kept between 300 to 500 per meal, protein is kept at 15 to 30, carbs 30 to 45. Snacks are always under 200 calories. I eat something within 1 hour of waking up to kick start my fat burning and then eat every 2 to 3 hours all day long to 1 hour before bedtime. No soda, no alcohol, no caffeine. I've lost 77 lbs so far so I guess my food program is working. Being on this website is great, but you should also have an actual food plan to go by. Good luck!!!0

You're right to be concerned with your sugar intake; it's the major killer in weight loss. Not all sugar though. Don't be too concerned with natural sugars (fruits ect). They're just like everything; in moderation, they're fine. Be careful to choose more fresh than dried fruit as you'll find the sugars in the dried stuff are through the roof. Refined sugars are a big no! White sugar in particular. I have a major sweet tooth and can't go one day without something sweet, so I did my research and stumbled upon Stevia. It's a natural sweetener (most varieties have 0 calories!!) derived from the Stevia Rebaudiana Plant and you only need a few drops of it because it's so sweet! I put it in my Dandelion Tea (I have at least 3 cups a day), my protein shake (because there's none on the market at the moment that use natural sweeteners; only artificial sweeteners which are not good for your health at all), even in my baking in addition to a little honey. Be careful with things like Cocoa too. If you can, source natural Cacao it's a far better option. That's the stuff Cocoa comes from before they process it and put sugar and all of that rubbish in it; you can buy it in powder form and with a little stevia and/or honey, it's great!:) You can get all of this stuff from any health store and I think they have some stevia products on supermarket shelves now:)
Hope this helps0
