How do I add people?

I've been a member but just now taking it seriously. I finally have the time to get back my health. I need to lose a good 40 pounds.. I'm trying to add people and find motivation but I can't figure out how to add people or request to.

    Options
    If you want to send a request to someone else, click on their name to go to their profile. You will see two green buttons, Send Message and Add As Friend. If you click Add As Friend, you can also send a message with your request.

    When you get a request, you will see a 1 in a red box at the top of the page beside the figure of a person. Click on that and then on the green Accept button.
