NSV - Controlled blood sugar

I've been a type 1 (insulin dependent) diabetic since I was 10 years old, and I have always had trouble with high blood sugar levels. It's been bad enough to put me in the hospital well over a dozen times (8 in the past two years). I had pretty much given up assuming I couldn't reverse any of the damage my body has taken. Since I've started this journey to get fit , my blood sugar has been great! I know a big part of it is controlling what I eat, which makes it a lot easier to take the correct amount of insulin for each meal. The past few doctors visits have been anxiety-inducing considering how bad my A1C levels were (11.5) but now I can't wait to show my doctor how under control my sugar is. My next visit is in September and I know that if I keep this up, I can redeem myself for all the bad past visits :)

That's incredible! A lot of times, all I think about on this journey is the next smaller jeans size... you reminded me this morning what's really important: better health and feeling good. There's a lot of type II diabetes in my family that I'm trying hard to escape.

    I'm T2 but I feel ya.

    My A1C was 9.9%

Dr. Richard K. Bernstein has a really good book (The Diabetes Solution) available on Amazon, I got the kindle version. He's been T1 for something ridiculous like since the 1950's & had all sorts of associated complications that he was able to reverse through tight control. Everything from gastric paresis to sexual dysfunction.

Though he advocates tight control (I know this is controversial for T1's) but the law of small numbers helps mitigate major swings in corrections.

Are you using a pump? If not, 'think like a pancreas' is also a really good book, also on Amazon, forgot who wrote it.
Good for you for taking control. :drinker:
