I go for long walks, daily, and I used to log how long I walked for and at what pace I walked, then after a while I decided to let my phone count the steps for me on the app instead of logging it
I noticed, when you log, the app states your burning alot more than when it counts your steps
Which one are you supposed to go off?
Do I log how long I walk? Or do I let my phone count the steps and not log?

Just to clear up, when I log the walks, I don't have my phone in my pocket x

I would time the walk and guess the best you can for the pace. I don't find step counters to be very accurate. I had a Fitbit HR and when I typed, it said I had taken steps and gave me calories to eat. I definitely would not trust a phone to count steps. Just log the best you can, but don't eat all the calories it gives you since it can never be 100% accurate.

The method that comes closest to this general formula is the one I would use....

Net walking calories = (Body weight in pounds) x (0.30) x (distance in miles)

Couldn't you use Map My Walk on your phone and sync it to My Fitness Pal to get a more exact calculation based on the pace and distance of your walk?
