Has your period been late due to new diet and excersise routine?

Hello girls,

I recently started going to gym and counting calories. I have done that in the past, but had to stop due to travelling abroad for long period. Now I am back to it and I felt great up until last week. My period is not 5 days late and I am not pregnant, it has always been on time and this is a very worrying thing for me.

I read somewhere that heavy lifting (as I go to gym 4 times a week doing weight lifting) as well as cardio exercises can delay or make you skip a period. Can someone comment on their experience with that?

Thank you in advance,
Pubble

I've read lots of accounts of this happening. Just this month I went 30 days between cycles, which is very late for me. I tend to be 23-26 days tops--my whole life. I've been exercising more and recently began lifting. It's worth mentioning to your doctor, but as long as you're eating enough it's definitely kind of normal from what I've read.

As you lose weight, the lost fat releases estrogen into your body. So things can get kind of weird from that too. Mine kept coming a week early while I was losing, and sticking around for a slow period for 2 weeks at a time. It sucked.

High stress, either from exercise, low calories, or even mental/emotional stress has made my period irregular before. I've had it skip a month as well.

Yes, mine was 7 days late. Came today on my Birthday. I hope that helps someone else that has been stressing over it like me for the past week.

I went to doc and so on, and was told it was due to low calorie intake and 4 times weight lifting + cardio sessions that exhausted by body and stressed it a bit. I had a cake to reward my body today :) not that I crave foods, but since I had a birthday cake and my body did well the past 2 months, I think I should treat it! Hooray!

Thanks for the replies lovely ladies :)
