New, SAHM, 40+, doing Walk Away the Pounds

:drinker: I'm new to this site (a friend who's lost 25+ pounds on it told me about it,) but not new to dieting. So many years of yo-yo'ing back & forth, doing it on my own, doing WW (lost then gained &...that's a post for another day.) I'm a vegetarian mostly because it's easier to stay low-sodium & fat with it. (Yes, I know you can rack up the bad on a veg diet. I try my best not to.) My first goal is to get to 180 (from 225.5) and then work on the next 30-40 pounds.
Last week I dug out my Walk Away the Pounds videos and wonder why I never kept at it because I love them. My set includes a 1, 2, and 3 mile walk. I hit the mute button and play my own music. (I have NOTHING against the talking in the video. I love it as it doesn't talk down to you at all. I just like the variety of my playlist.) I have arthritis in my lower back & sciatica and the workouts don't hurt me at all. I've managed to power through the 3 mile twice after a couple of failures, getting better each time, but any side stepping with arms going in & out movements leave me looking like a drunk goat. I just can't coordinate both together. LOL! I have managed to power through all the horrid legs-in-a-V-sway-to-the-side-bend-a-leg-back move. I feel proud of that accomplishment! I plan on ordering more videos in the series soon. I also do a little bit of weight lifting (simple handweight stuff.)
Aside from using this site, I track my good days with stickers on a calendar that I walk past all the time. Sounds silly, but damn it, those reward stickers have always worked for me. I get one for each day I've exercised and another each day in which I ate healthy. It's a visual that helps me to see, "Okay, I had 8 great days in a row, but only 2 bad ones this month. That's great!" :flowerforyou:
Oh, and I have a teenager and we homeschool, so my routine is to wake up before him, get my workouts done, get a start on chores, etc. so by the time he wakes up we can school.

Hi, I'm a homeschooling, SAHM too. WATP was the first workout video I ever did, Leslie Sansone was my bff in the beginning. I took up running and don't do her videos much anymore, but still have fond memories, LOL! BTW, I also started off in the 220's, am currently at about 180, working toward 160. Anyway, feel free to add me if you want! :flowerforyou:0

I'm another Leslie S fan and started doing her workouts again 2+ weeks ago. Like you, I wonder why I stop doing them because I always feel so GOOD after! Which ones are you doing? I found a couple on YouTube that I didn't have and have been doing those. I think this will help us get some weight off!

I also just started using this site, I really love it and I have lost some weight in the 10 days I have been on MFP. I love walk away the pounds I have several DVD's. My favorite is one I got from Wal-Mart you can customize your workout choosing between 1,2,3,4,and 5 miles along with additional exercises for you arms, legs, etc. I also have been working out at the YMCA I find mixing it up keeps me interested. I have a short term goal of loosing 40 pounds and long term goal of 100 pounds lost. I am wishing you success in your journey.0

Thanks for the welcome! (This applies to everyone too.:flowerforyou: )
Glad I'm not alone on starting out around the same weight doing the videos. (Insert long rant about my doctor last year swearing that "walking wasn't good enough" and yet I figure something is better than nothing and I can't afford, nor do I have the time, to go to the gym.)
I like that even in my tiny living room, I can do the videos. I just push back the coffee table and scoot my son's desk to the side, putting my water bottle on top of it. I used folded wrist weights for the blue balls. (Speaking of which, does the talking about the blue balls in the videos send anyone else's teenage boys into laughing fits? Mine paused and rewound to watch it again. )
One day, I'd love to get up to running. Eventually, it'll happen.
Sorry that my replies are late. I had to work out, do laundry (why is it always Laundry Day?,) and then do mom things.0 -

HI!:drinker:
I think I have that one on my Amazon wish list. Here, let me list the 2:
Leslie Sansone: Walk at Home - 5 Mile Fat Burning Walk (2008)
Leslie Sansone: Walk Away the Pounds Ultimate Collection (2009) (Reviewers said it was a repacked version of some, 4, of her other videos, but none seem to be the ones I have.)0 -

I'm doing (mixing it up to whatever I feel like):
Get Up and Get Started 1 mile (I often use it as a warm up)
High Calorie Burn 2 mile
Super-Fat Burning 3 mile (which I can finally get through without pausing and am able to do at least 98% of the moves properly.)
Today I started with the 1 mile as a warm up, checked these boards and stayed too long so I cooled down too much. So I did the 2 mile and then 1 mile again to complete my 1 hour (well, 66 minutes) daily exercise goal.0
