mass marketed diets piss me off

does anyone else get frustrated when they see people marketing diets that make outrageous claims?? for example, a couple of my aunts and uncles just got suckered into this "yoli" diet thing or whatever. it claims 7 to 10lbs of weight loss in the first 7 days! and 30lbs in 30days. and that it is "safe, fast, and the weight stays off forever."
first of all, that kind of weight loss isn't even possible on performance enhancing drugs. your body can litteraly not handle safely losing that much weight. that's dehydration and starvation... its depleting your glycogen stores, then when you carb back up after the diet you gain everything back...
on top of that, I think its ****ed up that people are marketing this kind of bull**** to the already susceptible over weight population. they all sell claims of "the easy way" and "fast" and "weight stays off forever". taking advantage of weak minded, lazy people. (is this just common practice/acceptable behavior for corporate America now??)
no where does it talk about how hard work pays off, or how if you want something bad enough you gotta fight for it, or does it recommend making life style changes...
**** pisses me off. I just needed to rant. maybe some of you can offer some different perspectives, or confirm what I already believe to be b/s.

I get pissed every time I hear stupid radio DJs (who are almost always fat, btw) promoting diet pills on the radio, pretending like they actually work. What's sad is that I know several people who hear about it and end up blowing $100+ on the things.0

As I told a friend the other day - no one makes money off of "eat at a reasonable deficit and exercise moderately." :flowerforyou:
Truly, people are disappointed when I tell them what I've done to get in shape. It's just not what they want to hear.0 -
and how could you be proud of your body image if it was achieved so easily??
on top of that, if a great body was as easy as taking a pill, or drinking a shake... wouldn't EVERYONE be fit as hell??
America is getting lazier, and dumber as time goes on. Which goes hand in hand with the rising rate of obesity....0 -

ya exactly. and whats In those diet pills? FRIGGIN Caffeine. thus promoting the "don't eat, and you'll lose weight" mind frame. sounds like a healthy approach. far healthier than say, taking the stairs instead of elevator. or walking your dog couple times a day. lol. people are idiots.
thank god atleast WE are aware0 -
Here's something else to consider - If Slimfast, Lean Cuisine, Nutri System, etc. all worked as well as they claim, they would lose your business! Think about it. As soon as you lose the weight, you quit needing their products. They have a financial interest in keeping people overweight and desperate for solutions. :frown:0

All right, for the most part, I agree - people are always looking for the easiest way to achieve weight loss. But I just want to acknowledge that not everyone who tries one of these diets is doing is as a cop-out or to be lazy! I, for example, lost 80 pounds completely on my own over the last 2 and a half years. At about the 2 year mark I hit a plateau so flat I could NOT power through to get to 81 pounds lost. Exercising over an hour a day, eating like a champ, nothing would help! So finally, I knew I needed a kick start. So I started Yoli three weeks ago. I am not starving, I am drinking a TON of water, and I have lost 12.5 pounds. This diet is not starvation or dehydration, it is really teaching yourself life long habits about portion control, what types of food your body needs to feel energized, and I really do have energy!! I walk for about an hour every day and get two or three intense workouts a week. Feeling great!! Also, youre not eating processed, packaged, and cardboard food! I eat organic raw foods every single day. Dont knock it until you really research what it's all about :happy:0
