Weight Loss and Powerlifting - Anyone Going Through It / Gone Through It?

Good day. I should start by saying that I am an amateur powerlifter, and not in the least bit competitive, I just do it for health and for the sheer joy of lifting super heavy stuff.
I started out trying to get healthy at 245 pounds, absolutely no muscle on me to speak of. It was gross. After lifting for a few years I was visibly losing fat and getting more muscular, but I still carried fat on me and was up to 285 pounds. Which wasn't really ideal.
So I bought a fitness tracker watch and started watching what I eat, and it's been really helpful so far. I'm cruising at around 270 pounds lately and still managing to perform okay in the gym. It's just hard to adjust to eating smart from eating ALL THE TIME. Though it is good that my numbers are going up, and I am getting close to the coveted 2 plate overhead press (100 kg / 220 lbs), which is quite exciting.
Any advice or experience from others about eating smart but keeping the energy and drive up to lift stupidly heavy objects?
