SWEAT! EW! LOL
I must wash someone's workout clothes that will not release the sweat odor when I do. I have tried everything in the detergent aisle. I have tried oxywash. I have also tried just vinegar, just baking soda, a combination of the two, letting them soak, hydrogen peroxide, and every thing I have read on any forum anywhere about getting the ick out. I even tried essential oils. This smell is male in origin, if that matters to any potential advice I could get from anyone. His sweat is also orangish in color. Suggestions? Thank you!

I add Borax to gym laundry and it works just fine. Sounds like you have a "special" situation, though. Good luck.0

His sweat is orangish? Is he using a fake tan agent? or eating an odd diet?0

I have some stuff called Sports Suds and it gets the smell out of synthetic fabrics.
For the record, my barbell makes the back of my shirts kind of orange-ish colour along the upper back where it sits when I squat. Just saying...0 -
If it's related to an oily skin you could get him to try switching to an alkaline detergent bath bar? I know this won't help with the current clothing problem though.
*I wasn't having a pop at the OP over the "orange" - Just if it is related to fake tanning etc - could maybe have come up with some other ideas :happy:0 -
My DH gets this on the collars of his white shirts. Straight up rub Fels-Naptha on that.0

I appreciate the replies! No, he doesn't use fake tan and his diet is just as normal as you could want. After some research, I think he may have a rare (and not exactly life-threatening) condition known as chromhidrosis. It does not, unfortunately, explain the mind-numbing sweat odor. If I don't wash his clothes separately, the smell will even migrate to my clothes in the washer! As for the orange color, it is in his clothes and permanently a part of our mattress topper. He says his dad's sweat is that way, too. I bleach the few things he owns that can be bleached, but sometimes, the odor even outdoes the bleach! The strange thing is the scent of his body odor coming off his skin is only about a quarter as powerful as his clothes get.
To answer, this affects new clothes and those that have been worn a while. I will try what you all have suggested. Hmmm, no offense taken! I really am thankful for the responses!!! :happy:0 -
Tell him to lay off the curry and toss the clothes.0

Have you tried letting them soak in the oxywash overnight?0
