Opinions on using fruits and veggies as main carb source?

I'm not on low-carb but because of my flare ups from my high chance of IBD/Crohn's/Colitis (noted by doctor) that I'm currently getting tested for, I can't have grains, wheat, dairy, etc, otherwise I go through all these painful symptoms (the worst being vomiting which defeats the purpose of eating them in the first place). So my question is, is it ok to consume only fruits and veggies as a main carb source? With the exception of honey and quinoa of course.

Sure you can [I often do since breads often have a lot of sodium], though I would go with more fibrous fruits and veggies, as they will make you feel full longer.

Yes, its fine. You will get a lot more vitamins out of fruits and vegetables. You might need to make sure you get enough iron and B vitamins, as many breads and cereals are fortified.

Sure you can:-) squash, carrots, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, bananas, most melons, and mangos all are pretty high carb. If you are eating a variety of meats, you do not need a B or iron supplement.

Oh, I am going through this. I have a malabsorption disorder. I can't digest grains or many carbohydrates. I get my carbs from the fruits and veggies that I can digest. And I have regained my health. Yes, this is ok in your situation. I also eat nuts and kefir and a little dark chocolate. And then all the rest of my fats and proteins from meats, eggs, oil.

This is reassuring, thank you. I was hesitant for the main fact that fruits still have a bad rep due to fructose and many people say to go for the oatmeal or brown rice instead instead, for example. Coincidentally, my favorite fruits and veggies happen to be the ones higher in sugar lol (carrots, mangos, sweet potato, pineapple, etc). Basically tropical fruits and veggies that grow underground.

Yeah, I have been on a low fodmap diet. But, I can eat blueberries, orange, strawberries. Probably other stuff. But, mainly those. I seem to be doing ok. I eat carrots. And I eat dark leafy greens like chard, kale, collard. I cook my veggies. But, I don't have an IBD disorder (I don't think). My malabsorption was caused by overtreatment with antibiotics. I do have scarring on my small intestines from past ulcerations. And my Rheumatologist is thinking I could have celiac disease. I personally can't eat quinoa. I'm on a year long waiting list to see a GI specialist. I guess I have six more months left of that. I can't eat sweet potato (right now). The Monash University Low Fodmap Diet App is helpful to me. But, I also have malabsorption of grains.

Unless you are a diabetic( and have to watch out for excess sugars . In. That case eat the lower sugared fruits and veggies)of course you can get carbs from veggies and fruits. I don't do refined carbs per say. I will on the rare occasion of being at someone else's house or that once a year anniversary dinner. My fasting sugars were as perfect as they can be. I have been doing this for the past 7 months. Yes, my dr recommended it and I am so glad.

Yes its more than ok. I can't eat gluten (celiac disease). When I was first diagnosed in 2008, I didn't have a clue as to what was gluten or not. For 6 months I was terrified of eating, so I only ate vegetables and fruit. In 4 months I lost 35 lbs....that was the beginning of my 70+ lbs weight loss.
