Ive read a lot on both sides of the argument and cant decide what i agree with: does sticking to eating a 50% carb 30% fat and 20% protein diet matter more in weight loss than sticking to just making sure u eat a certain amount of total cals for the day (not talking about building muscle or getting lean just talkinv about losing pounds?

At the end of the day if you're at a deficit you'll lose weight.

So hey, if you're permitted 1300 calories a day in order to lose a pound a week and you're so inclined on eating a pint of Ben and Jerry's that usually are between 1100 to 1400, by all means give it a try and report back!

Scientifically all you should need to lose weight is less calories than you burn, but then of course you're always told if you haven't lost weight it could be water weight, you've retained water so eaten too many carbs or sodium. There's no definitive answer to this, you have to do what works for you.

It's not about what matters more. Calorie management is for weight management. Diet composition is for easier calorie management. But you still have to make it work, and you will have to do it forever, so a good diet is crucial.
