Sugar intake

How much sugar do people tend to consume per day? I've just looked on the app and the RDA is 133g and I hit about 90-110g a day through sweet potatoes, bananas, yoghurt. Just wondered if this is too much

Depends on the person, I'm sure it varies widely. I don't think total sugar matters (unless you don't get adequate protein, healthy fats, fiber, vegetables or go over calories). I do keep added sugar to a moderate amount as part of eating an overall healthful, balanced diet.I've just looked on the app and the RDA is 133g and I hit about 90-110g a day through sweet potatoes, bananas, yoghurt. That's not the RDA -- it's MFP's default 15% of your overall calories, which isn't based on any particular recommendation. The recommendations by the US Guidelines and the WHO is less than 10% ADDED sugar, nothing about total sugar. I wouldn't worry about the precise number, personally, but just make sure your overall diet is good.0 -
I try to stay under 50g/day. I was never one of those "sugar is evil" people until I cut it out of my diet almost completely. I don't know that it has any effect on weight loss, but I FEEL so much better. I have much more energy, particularly after meals, and I don't have nearly as much stomach trouble as I did.0

I get between 100-200 grams per day.0

There's plenty of good sugars in fruit, such as bananas, so as long as it's coming from a good source and not from a pixie stick, I tend to not worry too much.1

I was just wondering really. My sugar intake looks really high compared to others e.g. my daily 350g of sweet potato has close to 80g of sugar!! That along with a banana puts me near/over 100g daily, could this be detrimental to my physique or because it's 'natural' wil it be ok? As ehine1 said it's not like its from sweets etc0

I get no less than 60grams per day from Tootsie Pops. You will be fine.1

Yes I am very well thanks.
I don't track sugar though - just a subset of carbs so pointless for me.
Yesterday was a huge but unknown sugar intake, just the right amount rather than too much:
monster bowl of granola, banana, 3.5 litres of energy drinks, 4 carb/protein snack bars, carb gel, barbeque in the evening, dessert with raspberries and strawberries, wine....
Guess I'm going to die....
PS - Still in a calorie deficit for the day though.

Calories in, Calories out. As long as you're burning the calories, you'll be ok. However, if you're intentionally trying to cut most of your sugar out, then bananas and sweet potatoes have to go.

If the 133 g is 15% of total calories your calories are 3500, and so everything ought to look high compared to the calorie goals many have.0 -

Yes I suppose you are correct, obviously if I was cutting at about 2500, the sugar would also be lower at about 60g so it's probably higher due to the amount of cals I'm consuming0 -
