Is it normal to gain weight after eating right and exercise?

I am new to this. I have never been the athletic type, nor have been a healthy eater. About two weeks ago I started eating healthier and monitoring my eating habits. I lost 2 lbs the first week. This past week, I kept to my diet but added walking to my regimen. I walked 3 miles one day and 4 miles the next. This week I gained 2.7 pounds. Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong?

Water retention from increased activity/muscle repair. Normal.2

It normal for your weight to fluctuate because weight loss/gain is not linear.

DOMS. Drink plenty of water and continue your routine. Will go away. Also recommend avoiding the human scale, but do use the food scale daily for best results.1
