Sugar tracking question

I tracked my sugar for a week and kept it at 15 g or less per day just to see how it really effects our body (it was a mini challenge). In the first two days I had headaches, but they went away like I said, after 2 days. After the headaches were gone I had more energy, my stomach flattened more and looked great, and my love handles shrunk. When I went back to not caring and not paying attention to sugar, my stomach went back to being a little more squishy, and my love handles went right back to where they were. I havn't been great this past week at tracking my food as I just had my wisdom teeth out and am miserable.
ANYWAY, my question is, SHOULD i track my sugar? I believe the recommended daily value for a woman of my size is around 25g. Is it worth it to track that and try to stay around there, or is it better to just try to stay at my calorie goal and forget about looking at the sugar aspect of it at all?
I have a race coming up in a week and was thinking about trying to stay at or below 25g for the next week because of the extra energy I had gained after the first few days. Is this a good idea? Ultimately I would like to do this permanently, but want to hear from some of the "experts" on here if they think it is worth it.
Thanks in advance for your opinions and advice.
